Okay, I need help to make something easy. I'm looking for a couple wireless outdoor cameras. There's plenty on Amazon, but the cheaper ones I'm looking at get their power through a standard USB connection. This is a lovely way of doing things, because I'd need to drill a 3/4" hole in the side of the house to run the cord. Is there anything commercially available that would be something like a USB-to-stereo mini plug? It'd need to be USB-to-mini female, then another USB-to-mini male, then I could get it done with a 3/8" hole in the house. (I don't really want to take any time looking at USB pinouts to make my own, or cut/splice)

Larrymer posted:Sounds like you're making it hard, in fact. USB plugs aren't that big. Right around 1/2" from a cursory googling. And at that point, 3/8" vs 1/2", who cares? It's going through masonry, I'll go as small as I can! spog posted:

Call from my wife: Her -- my car's not starting. Me -- are the lights on? Her -- yes, but they turn off automatically. Me -- well, that shows the battery is fine. Her -- Maybe I'll have Steve jump me, oh he doesn't have cables Me -- Is it doing anything? Her -- Yeah, it's turning over, but not starting. Me -- Then it's not the battery, something else is going on. Her -- Let me see if I can get someone to at least try to jump me. Me -- Awesome follow-up: Her -- hey, I got it started, somebody jumped me. Me -- okay, bye. meatpimp fucked around with this message at 21:21 on Aug 14, 2017 |

Ether Frenzy posted:I suppose you know whether or not your wife understands what 'turning over' means, I guess that's an option. I figure it's either that, or it needed a couple minutes to reset and when she tried it again, it was with jumper cables and now has a false correlation between a no-start and jumping it. loving cars. And man, I'm glad all of you pointed out that so many people are hammering my wife. That's eye-opening.

Resolution A) The parking lot sensor puck that is suction-cupped to the windshield fell and hit her hazard button. B) She found that out when the hazards came on once the jumper cables were connected. C) She said it was turning over, but slower and slower every time. I told here that for future reference, "turning over" is a completely different explanation than "turning over, but slower and slower every time."

I was doing a little job on my brother's GTI (gently caress whoever designed the rear brake shield mounting on those things), and was taking his car back. It's peppy, and my 8 year old girl was with me. I was getting on it and she was saying how much she liked acceleration. So, I grabbed dad's E90 M3 and took her for a ride. I don't know if I've ever heard her laugh like that before.
