A car with a loving CVT was the goddamn highlight of the year (okay, it's actually a bloody good car) until 3 weeks ago and really had a left turn in life - Which has made me look forward to 2018 big time.

I'd be much happier if I didn't have to figure out how much of a tip I would be expected to leave, then modify it depending on service - just give me a price. I'd also be much happier if I just had a flat hourly rate (maybe throw in a little if I have to drive more than usual), instead of this "you get $4 per delivery, you get 'as the bird flies' mileage, plus whatever the customer tips" stuff. Wait a sec, loving rewind a bit here. Are you seriously telling me Amazon keeps the loving tips and doles out whatever???????

CommieGIR posted:At this rate (and which Australia's use of Brown Coal), they just need to wait and that'll happen on its own. Brown coal is not the major coal at all - Hazelwood is gone and You Yangs 1 and 2 are probably not going to last beyond 10 years with the way things are going (only VIC used brown coal and only three stations remain that use it). NSW/QLD Black is the major coal and it is a HELL of a lot better and energy dense (still complete poo poo of course). And even those are being lined up for either conversion or shutdown, wether or not AGW's like it or not. Wether the current govt likes it or not as well too, coal is on the way out as a power source, esp with SA proving battery backups work and VIC / NSW now looking to get battery arrays of their own, let alone the new solar thermal plants and solar arrays going up all over the place. There are no new coal plants being seriously considered (hell, the banks wont finance them so no one can build one) and not one will be replaced with coal as they reach their expected lifetime due to the fact every other power source is now cheaper. South Australia has NO coal fired stations at all. The big problem is the exports to SE Asia. Again, that's mostly black coal, rather than brown.

There's enough believeable horror stories about the cost of CVT replacement that I extended my warranty only due to the CVT. I hate to think how many CVT equipped cars are going to be junked straight out well before they should be just simply due to CVT failure (And not just Subaru)..... let alone the "benefits" of a CVT re: fuel consumption are pretty much bullshit. Almost all improvements in Subarus are down to the DI engines NOT transmissions.

To be fair, CVT's have improved greatly since then, the current high performance CVT's Subaru have are.... well... passable. Mitsubitshi ones are still hosed in the head tho. Still, CVT's have power and weight limits, they dont like towing or hot weather, they can wear out frighteningly fast, not a single "benefit" cant be matched or exceeded by a traditional gearbox, heavy, more complex than what they appear on paper etc and DEF not faster when you want to hustle. OTOH... they work really well with automated car systems, stop / start traffic and cruising long distances. EDIT : I rather like hustling the Levorg in fake gear mode, paddles are fuuuuuuuun. But you can do that on a normal auto so....... CAT INTERCEPTOR fucked around with this message at 23:08 on Jan 11, 2018 |

Whoops. Thats not a deep bruise - I broke ribs pretty much the same way, the same "Yeah no problem" to "Oh poo poo this huuuurts" later. Unnnnnfortuantly given its ribs, as long as they arent piecing anything there's not a lot that can be done in this case - rest, painkillers, no hard physical activity for a while. Get them X-Rayed anyway, it's better to know and deal with what they find.
