I bet you 50/50 the dems don't change the way they operate, even though it's blatantly obvious it can't work.

Congressional Dems are cowardly fucks, but it seems like Tom Perez and the DNC organization are starting to get it and running campaigns targeted for the local constituents instead of adherence to a "party line." I guess we just have to hope we get enough good ones in there to start making a difference.

economic anxiety

pretty cut-and-dried case of economic anxiety. The gentleman outside of the truck is a date farmer and is worried about subsidized imports from afghanistan undercutting his business. we really need to get the farm bill passed to flip these moderate republicans.

in one of the iterations of the YOSPOS security gently caress ups thread, someone posted a site (please do not look for it) that scraped the internet for VNC clients that had access to the public Internet and were using default credentials. The amount SCADA systems in it was... absolutely terrifying

So this is a bit different than the usual Trump talk, but last night I decided to catch up on Frontline (excellent documentary series produced by PBS) and saw one about the Myanmar rohingya genocide, which I (and probably eveyone else) is really ignorant about.

https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/myanmars-killing-fields/

All I have to say is, holy gently caress :stare: the poo poo the Myanmar military is doing to the villages is ISIS levels of savagery. It's amazing what this documentary has uncovered, the video, the satellite images, the first person interviews - the know the names of actual commanders committing mass-murder. There are stories, collaborated by surviving eye witness and video of soldiers marching into a village, and slitting the throats of every man and child that they find. Sadly, because no one seems to give a poo poo, nothing will be done about it. The US COULD play a roll in using the United Nations as a platform to pressure the Myanmar government to knock it off, or face sanctions and international isolation again. Of course, we are under the glorious leadership of the Donald J. Trump administration so lol to democracy and accountability anywhere.

Also Aung San Suu Kyi is NOT the free-loving democratic leader we thought she was because she is very much apart of this Genocide.

There are also a few threads in the Travel subforum where goons were asking about visiting Myanmar, but honestly I would say boycott the country until they, you know, stop committing mass-murder.

the really cool (read: extremely bad) part is that the Rohingya are fleeing to the nearest muslim-majority country, which is Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a) one of the most, if not the most densely populated countries on earth and b) extremely poor. The Bengali army has been providing what assistance it can but many of the refugees are being put in a camp that is presently an island and entirely floods during monsoon season. They're going to be washed out to sea.

You may be surprised to learn that this has lead to an uptick in Bengali and Myanmar-muslim terrorists, including the guy that tried to blow up a car bomb in NYC last year.
