Fresh caught, cooked just before eating lobster is very expensive unless you live in the right coastal areas, and it's nothing like what 99% of the working class has eaten elsewhere.

I think lobster rolls are actually the best way to serve it, but I’ve always found it kinda meh Yeah it's overrated, and it's too expensive, but it def doesn't need to be drenched in fat. And maybe Australian lobster (crayfish) is very different, but I'll never forget the sweetness from eating a cray cooked on the pier after it came off a boat in Tasmania.

These lend themselves to takeout just fine, though. One thing I'm really glad I got at home and no longer go out for, is a portable stove top and a ying-yang hotpot pot. Hotpot at home is so much better.

Azathoth posted:I've done phone tech support for a good long while, and even in our relatively low stress call center we still have people who quit because they can't handle it. For us it's mostly just people being rude or snippy, actual blowups are rare, and some people just can't even deal with that. I cannot imagine the kind of responses that someone would get in that kind of job and it definitely doesn't surprise me to hear that it would legit scar someone. I did dialup tech support and payphone support for the public, and as a white man I copped the least, and yeah mostly it's rudeness and sometimes yelling out of frustration, but my fellow workers also received sexism and racism on top. Heaven help you if you had a feminine voice with an accent. I think another stress factor was management and team leaders pushing you hard to be on Available and taking as many calls as possible. If you were on Unavailable for too long someone called you to ask why and go back in. You're taking too long but also you're not fixing enough, stressful. Payphone support was awful, but sometimes rewarding helping someone out of a jam. collections would have been brutal. And I realize now I'm loving old because payphones and dialup lol Bald Stalin has issued a correction as of 02:31 on Jun 5, 2023 |

In my late 20s I talked to some sort of screening-pysch at Kaiser, about how I felt I drinking too much, was sad, and wanted to speak with a therapist. She told me I wasn't drinking too much, that the way I felt wasn't unusual and that was the end of that. Kaiser is garbage at everything except keeping you a somewhat productive worker, until the $ outweighs the benefits and they just let you go.

I know a few people that work in NFP, not even as leaders getting paid good money they're the underpaid real workers, and they really don't like socialism. Root cause analysis and root cause fixes don't get much airplay in their heads despite being some of the most informed about the symptoms in their areas. Couple of comrades came with me to a public open mic with our states NFP tenant support org, to inject some covert class analysis and socialist talking points. Their media liaison literally said, right after admitting they're funded to be only be able to help 10% of the tenants coming in, and I quote "we need better landlords".
