At this point it's basically expected that Republicans will do these kinds of bullshit investigations on their political opponents. Just curious when Strong Daddy's rhetoric pushes them over the edge and they start going for the real deal of politically motivated arrests. They're already pretty far down the path of voter suppression and "our enemies are illegitimate law breakers".

Trump's not a tough guy, he's a superficial bully whose eyes would widen up with fright if anyone ever physically challenged him. He can't even fire people in person. This really isn't getting enough exposure. The Republican party has turned into the bastard offspring of Jim Crow hate-loving a banana republic. Kemp has refused to secure the electoral system he is in charge of, instead using it to turbofuck minorities and rig the election he is running in. When a security flaw is found in the system he is both responsible for and abusing, his immediate reaction is to gin up an investigation against his political opponents for their "hacking". Concentrating on politician housing is kind of a round-about bandaid on an issue that won't really make an actual difference. Fix that, take a chunk out of the lobbyist vice grip on politics and, by extension, all their wealthy backers. Once the barrier to entry isn't "be a millionaire, or be bought by a billionaire", the housing can be sorted out later.

Hell if someone waved a magic wand that ripped the lobbying industry out of DC root and branch, I bet a quarter of the housing in the area would open up overnight.

As much as many people want to push for fully automated space communism and the like in D&D, what I'm seeing with Pelosi is the most realistic optimism scenario. Not perfect, and can certainly be improved on but realistic. She sees where the wind is blowing and bought off the progressive side of the party by giving them a lot of high profile committees in exchange for leaving the conserva-Dem wing high and dry without enough to challenge her. It's not Full Communism Now, but barring violent societal revolution it's how things are going to get done.
