I couldn't stand Peaky Blinders. Sam Neil and Cillian Murphy are top notch performers but contemporary music slow walks, Sons of Anarchy style "brotherhood" bullshit and all was just too much to take. Never even made it to the point that Hardy shows up.

Y'all's email load sounds painful to me. I end up with around 30 a day but the vast majority of those are completely irrelevant city wide emails. Even the ones that do effect my department often mean near nothing to my specific work group. About 2 emails a day are actually relevant to me so most of my interaction in outlook is just ferreting out those 2 emails then having in person conversations with the necessary coworkers. And for those of you triggered by the in person part, I'm not hunting down coworkers at their desk or anything. We're constantly interacting in person with one another as an aspect of the job. It's just easier to chat the next time we're together than write out an email.

Man, I probably wrote less than 40 work emails last year.

We're at the emergency vet since my dog was whining a bit a wouldn't lay down. Pretty sure he's fine since I took him for a walk on which he pooped on. All seemed well but he's a stoic sort and bloat is scary so pray for my poor fat pupper.

Good luck, fat pup.

We did that with our older hound a couple years ago, vet pressed her stomach in a few spots and she projectile poo poo on the wall. It had some cloth in it, because she ate a loving sock, and he said it was likely the cause.

This story made my wife and I laugh. Thanks for that.

They arent sure what's wrong but best guess seems to be some back pain that is causing him to tense up in his stomach. They're gonna going to get him a little stoned and send him home with us for observation. At least it's not the bloat.

Definitely in this same camp. P&R had so much charm. It's characters all felt real and imbued with a basic human decency that's hard to find on TV(except Aziz Ansari). The Office felt like the same 3 jokes over and over with endless mugging at the camera.

We had a 55 hour power outage that I kept assuming was going to end at any minute, and my phone was next to dead when it started and I couldn't find my car charger. Finally dug out of the 8 inches of snow or whatever it was yesterday to go get another one.

On the bright side it was a slow weekend and there wasn't really anything I would have wanted to watch. Certainly not anything I'd been waiting 25 years to see.

Oh wow. That really sucks. At least you get to watch Andy Reid and the boys put the final stake through Brady's heart this week.

It might make her feel better to know that even if you're on a septic tank it'll eventually need to be pumped down at which point the septic truck that vactors that gross poo poo away will take it to the local sewage treatment plant. So you do use the sewer system, just all at once instead of via little daily contributions.

2 Things. First, take your kid to Disney world. The rides are middle tier but the magic is real. The whole work force is entirely committed to making children's dreams come true and it works. Second, tall girls that play volleyball have a shot at crazy generous college scholarships. Get her a net but quick.

At this point I think my ideal scenario is Pres. Bernie, VP Warren, and Gilibrand as house Majority Leader. She has the same connections that Chuck does but isn't an ancient moron. The good thing about weather vanes is they know which way the wind is blowing. A bunch of the old school democrats to need to get on board or get the gently caress out.

Bernie is politically ideal but he's pretty drat old (he'd be 79 when taking office), and he has consistently failed to appeal to minority voters. I'd like to see him decide not to run and publicly back a strong candidate who is solidly to the left of the Democratic center.

Me too but there's literally no one there. The Gen X and the Boomers were totally co-opted by the Clinton model of third wayism. Bernie, Dennis Kucinich(not that I'd want him to be president), and a bunch of dead guys are the only American politicians who advocate true leftist policies. You have some folks in the younger generation like AOC but none of them have qualifying government experience. Hell, as noted up thread Cortez doesn't even meet the age requirement.

I like Warren a lot but I fear that implementing her brand of restrained capitalism would be like bucketing our water on the titanic. Of course it's possible a Bernie win freaks out the conservative markets so badly we get a recession that neuters his ability to implement meaningful change. I think it's worse that risk because everything flows from the top in American politics. If we get a real sea change in political beliefs from the current younger generations we could theoretically create a healthy socialist nation with in our life times.

Gillibrand seemed cool for a second in 2016 ("[the Senate is] here to help people, and if we’re not helping people, we should go the gently caress home.") and then she peeled off her mask and revealed she fuckin sucks and wants that wall street cash like everyone else

If you're talking about the article from last week it was clickbait horse poo poo. Essentially one source saying that Gillibrand was reaching out to everyone to let them know she was running and was looking for donors. Nothing specifically in the vein of courting wall street. That doesn't mean she isn't a NY senator, as such probably too close with a bunch of hedge fund managers, but the article was a hit piece that means nothing.

Leperflesh posted:

Given the current makeup of the senate and to a lesser degree the house, even if Bernie won with a huge mandate in a good economy most of his platform is dead on arrival. A true leftist agenda simply will not happen quickly. The best we can really hope for the next decade is to shift the Overton window more to the left by normalizing left positions that still mostly get defeated in committee and do not lead to major changes in law.

That feels true but god is it depressing.

Has anyone here ever felt a more conviction to live a life that doesn’t harm animals

Every time I see the truck that transports chickens to the slaughter I feel horrible about myself

I stopped eating pig and cow because of their intellect a little over a year ago. Basically I really love my dog and he really loves me so eating something with a similar lived experience to him was bumming me out. The transition wasn't too hard. There are so many good alternatives now.I still dig on bird but maybe I'll stop some time in the future.

That said a bunch of people only avoid eating chicken because of how horrific the factory farm system is to them and the crazy raw numbers of how many chickens die a year. The best thing you can do is do whatever you're willing too to limit the amount of suffering our food goes through. That can be some as simple as buying the locally farmed eggs or whatever. Carnism is a spectrum so whatever you do to contribute less to the harm it causes is a positive.

Alternatively dont stress and eat what you'd like. Like it was said up thread, lab meats getting good and cheap will be a real game changer.
