Well. Decided to give this a try myself. I wound up with Don Corneo replacing Terra, and if Biggs and Wedge are any indication then all the soldiers are little girls... I am less than comfortable with that, for multiple reasons. Haven't seen Locke or the moogles yet, since I just finished the armor section of the intro, so I can't say what they're like, but Corneo's presence alone tells me this will be rather unpleasant. For the record, Duo (Corneo) has the commands Fight, Mimic, Magic (not natural), and Item. Haven't gotten far enough to see anyone else yet, but he's... kinda bad out of the armor (which had some decent commands except for the complete inability to heal). Doesn't help that he's statistically inferior to Saber, except for a slight edge in Magic Power (and maybe HP. I don't think I checked). edit: Locke has been replaced with an off-color Lenna named Nia, whose commands are Fight, Tools, Sketch, and Magic. Makes Duo a lot more viable, especially since I started with some equipment that teaches Fire 2 and found something else that teaches Fire 3. Moogles, meanwhile, are a bunch of copies of Crono from Chrono Trigger; Mog (or rather, Knives) himself has Fight, SwdTech, Steal, and Item- odd combination, but workable. Edgar, meanwhile, has become a color-reversed Mario named Marcil, and his commands are Fight, Morph, Magic (still no natural users yet), and Item. Judging by the portrait, Sabin has become FF9's Garnet, and his (now her) name is Ankh. The spoiler file says her commands are Fight, Refquak (Reflect??? followed by Quake; sounds like it could be handy once I find a way to not get wrecked by Quake), W-Sourm (yes, doublecasting Sour Mouth, and thus guaranteed to ruin almost anything's day with ridiculous numbers of status problems), and Item. Definitely a status-infliction specialist; fortunately, Sour Mouth is a good choice of ability for said specialist. Meanwhile, Kefka has to put up with the indignity of being a Mr. Saturn. Also, I checked, and I have no Rage user at all. Can't say I'm too broken up about that; I never could use Gau well. CptWedgie fucked around with this message at 11:04 on Apr 30, 2019 |

Yup. There are literally no sources of the Rage command in the entire seed. Also, Shadow is a dog named Mako. At least it's more likely than a potato, though.

Well, I've come back to this after what is no doubt far too long of a hiatus. I... don't recognize Banon, and his portrait is blurry (sorta resembles Locke's vanilla portrait, I think?) so I can't figure him out that way; I don't think I'll need to worry too much about him dying, since he's got good equipment and GP Rain (Sketch I'm not so sure about). At least the Returners' Hideout was quite generous. I mean, I got a Mystery Veil (currently only usable by Marcil and Ankh, but a very large upgrade in basically every way) and Genji Armor (an even bigger upgrade in every way) there. The Regal Cutlass they came with isn't too great, since it drops Duo's MBlock to 0 (mainly using it because it's a 29-point upgrade in attack power over the MithrilKnife I was using before), and the Ninja Gear has the issue of dropping both Vigor and Magic Power (on the bright side, it gives a lot of defense and boosts Speed by 2, the latter of which I desperately need), but at least they sell Dried Meat for cheap here (probably my best option for healing for the foreseeable future; Tonics are hard to find and surprisingly expensive, I don't think I've found a place to buy Potions yet, and I have no way to learn any Cure spells at this point).

Okay, just got my first Natural Magic user: Celes' replacement is Hassan (Delita sprite with a sort of "dark knight" palette, command list is R-Wild, Throw, and Magic). Seems quite useful. Starting spells are Cure, Demi, W Wind, and Imp; no good damaging spells in that list (and the spoiler log says that he won't get any until level 43, but that'll give both Ice 2 and Pearl), but Cure alone makes Hassan worth it.

...Huh. Remember how I had something that teaches Fire 3? Turns out TunnelArmr was weak to Fire, so I wound up one-shotting it. Also, an update on Mako: Natural Magic user #2. Commands are GP Rain, Jump, and Magic, starting spells are Fire, Bolt, Poison, Rasp, and Mute. Spoiler log says he(?) only naturally learns Cure 3 (not Cure or Cure 2), but he does so at an absurdly low level (26). I'm not gonna need THAT much healing anytime soon, I can guarantee that. edit: ...WTF. Cyan's replacement (a pigeon named Kaoru) is also a Natural Magic user. Commands are OverLag (apparently Overcast followed by Lagomorph), ?-Heal, and Magic, starting spells are Cure, Antdot (which is nice, since the enemies around Doma poison), Mute, and Safe. Ankh's scenario is pretty drat magical. CptWedgie fucked around with this message at 18:55 on May 12, 2019 |

...Huh. Decided to generate a new seed after hearing about this (in speedcave mode), and wound up with Edgar turning into a Runic Berserker. Who happens to be a Cactuar. That'd mess up basically any plans ever. Recruitable party members also include a baby and a treasure chest (yes, I used the "silly sprites" code). And now I'm wondering if the dev(s) would consider adding some sort of "force Ragnarok command" code for people who want that. I mean, they already have a code that makes you basically invincible and another that sets all enemies' HP to 1; "guarantee someone has a spammable Ragnarok summon" actually seems less cheat-y than those two, and could make a decent gimmick run in the vein of the "everyone is Sabin and suplexes everything" code. Or you could make it a bit more general and make it "summoner mode" instead: Everyone has a random summoning command, possibly with a randomized specific summon each. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go re-generate until I get a Ragnarok command, because I wanna try that.

Well, I technically don't have a Ragnarok command, but R-Esper (the random summon thing I mentioned before) and W-Death (2 random instakills) work well enough; only catches are Crusader and Roulette, respectively, assuming they have their standard targeting. As a bonus, Ragnarok's one of the common results on W-Death! As to weird party members... Locke wound up as Kirby (presumably from Dreamland), Cyan is a baby, Shadow is a 3-ton weight, Edgar is a door, Sabin is a chair (furniture brothers!), Strago is a treasure chest, Setzer is a grave, Mog is a skeleton, Gau is a potato, and Gogo is Chupon. Lot weirder than that other seed I mentioned, especially if their colors're strange. I can also potentially access the Rage command this time (not directly, but there're 7 items that turn Capture into Rage when equipped), so that's a thing. On the other hand, no dancer. Meh.

PurpleXVI posted:God, I can see that I need to try another Randomizer run, especially now there's the AlasDraco command. Let us know what gets thrown off the balcony, okay? Anyway, minor update: The person with R-Esper is Sabin; while he has the Magic command, he also started with a grand total of 2 MP (good thing Leather Hats reduce MP costs). Umaro, meanwhile, is an EXCEPTIONALLY deadly White Mage due to winding up with the W-Death command (even if his other command is redundant trash due to chaining Golem into X-Fer; I can X-Fer just fine with W-Death, and Golem's kinda useless when it's followed up by an instakill). Kinda wish that Ragnarok worked more often (in both senses of the phrase), but when you can just casually annihilate entire groups it's no big loss. Also, the first chest I opened was a Genji Shield. This isn't nearly as good as it sounds due to the fact that it comes with Auto-Stop.

Admiral Joeslop posted:Have you tried GolemX-Fer yet? Sometimes with skills like that, it'll do the beneficial part to your target then the other part to the enemy. No, haven't tried that yet. Probably won't, either, since I got my rear end kicked so hard I basically rage-quit. And the RunningShoes thing would require me to find some first; there are no shops that I've seen, and even if they exist they're not guaranteed to have any.

Yeah, Option 3 sounds good to me. With new names, so we don't confuse them with the thread's first seed characters.

Randalor posted:So... uh... I got not-Sabin with the abilities Swordtech and R-All. I should stop trying the random abilities I think. I was under the impression that Merton would kill you even when you're high-level unless you've got equipment to protect against it. Its spell power isn't that far below Ultima, so it's almost certain to be enormously damaging if you aren't immune to Fire or Wind, albeit not as much so as Ultima or Crusader would be (Merton: 138, Ultima: 150, Crusader: 190). Yes, I looked it up; I didn't know how powerful it was, I only remembered that it would utterly destroy me whenever it got used, regardless of the user. I don't think I was ever brave enough to summon Crusader due to the (justified) fear of it being even more powerful than Ultima and prone to vaporizing me along with the enemies.

Oh, hey, you got an Undertale sprite there. Who's Naru replacing again? Gotta say, that's probably the worst Bahamut ever. Anyway, Doma with Scar, Serena, and Videl. Not feeling merciful on the location, but the party, at least, is presumably marginally less horrible (aside from the comically-underlevelled Zepeli).
