Posting my own tweets, but I think the end part of this vid is like, the absolute fundamental explanation of what British chips are.

This guy puts so much energy into describing the shittiest kind of chips.

"OK we're going to fry these potatoes now but for some loving reason you don't want the end product to be greasy or crunchy in any way and it's basically like eating a bunch of boiled potatoes with a weird skin on, because we hate things which are fun to eat"

Also I reject any world where you can't put at least 2 of those chip toppers on at the same time.

This is a hideous tragedy but also lol that the big tough cop has to use his gun to protect himself from a medium size dog and fails spectacularly plus murders someone at the same time.

Also the sheer level of disdain he has for the woman's safety and wellbeing is quite impressive

The whole CW debacle is really exposing some of the fault lines in the contemporary 'left'. I'm not certain it's right to outright attack either side here as both have a point (crude class reductionism is bad, so is misunderstanding the unique importance of class at the conceptual level) and that's just handing ammo to the right, but I really do feel like it's important to emphasise what class analysis and class consciousness actually is, and more to the point show how it actually complements intersectional struggle rather than sidelining it.

E3: tl:dr class is not an identity ffs lads

Problem is that class actually is an identity in as much as the social concepts of "working class" and "middle class" exist outside of the actual economic classes of workers and capitalists, hence why you have people thinking that Jess Phillips is a big loving working class hero for having an accent

Doesn't anyone ever go "maybe I'm wrong and an idiot" why have we made it so hard as a society to go "I may not know this thing/ be able to have an opinion on that"/

Admitting that you don't know something is showing vulnerability, something that most people are taught from a young age to not do.

It is really weird though, I've hosed up at work on a couple of memorable occasions and apparently most people don't really know how to handle the situation if you say "I did <thing> and it was bad, how can we make this less likely to happen again" rather than trying to defend yourself. Like yeah I hosed up it happens if it's super terrible then I guess I'm unemployed now, otherwise let's improve things?

Having zero sense of competitiveness or shame does have its perks.

I was feeling pretty depressed seeing Swinson on the news earlier at work (any time a tory gives a speech it makes me die inside a little) but getting home and finding out that almost everyone else who opposes no deal actually said that it was a good idea (or at least "well I suppose we have to") really made my day. Obviously this didn't get a peep on the BBC.

Hate to be picking on this one lady, but could someone explain how to read this properly please?

It feels like the "punching up" thing she's referring to is that Jewish people have historically often ended up in somewhat privileged but insecure positions (merchants etc.), and that a form of antisemitism is targeting people in those privileged positions even if they're not Jewish? Is that about right?

So when she's talking about "The unique element of left antisemitism is that it's often masked in other codes." that's basically saying that anti-capitalism (or whatever passes for it in Labour) serves, or can serve at least, as a shield for antisemitism?

That does appear to be what she's saying yes, which is starting to sound more like "FYGM and if you disagree it's because you hate Jews"

I think it's more that people like anchoring to flag waving and grand traditions and pomp and all that poo poo, and in the absence of rich parasite families that usually ends up as nationalism or something instead. Or Lenin statues.

My boss is a slavering authoritarian, like he legitimately thinks that society is and should be broadly heirarchial and he loving loves the royal family to the point that he got visibly upset when the rest of the office agreed that the UK national anthem is poo poo. He's not even particularly into the royals as celebrities but he is probably incapable of ever thinking that opposing a power structure can be good. He hates Putin for example but always makes a point of talking about what a "strong leader" he is and how this is a very good thing but isn't it a shame that he isn't a nice Tory instead of a filthy Russian.
