The passthrough quality on the Q3 is pretty good, but I wish it was better utilized in software. Like I want additional ways to access the data like maybe have a passthrough window you could set that would always be showing through to the camera like a little hole in your headset. Maybe it's something they could make easier for game devs to support. Like in Walkabout golf if my cats make a weird noise and I go tap to passthrough to check it pauses multiplayer and can be a little buggy so I just lift the headset instead. I wish I could more like hold up an item in the game to look through that would show the passthrough contained to a rendertexture. I dunno how easy that data is to access for devs. The last time I played around with VR dev passthrough was barely a thing.

When you create your guardian borders it also seems to map some 3D space data I wish would be used in your guardian borders. Rather than just a big barrier it would be cool if you could start to see the edge of your couch as you get near it. It also seems to track when my cats wander through the space during setup as a point cloud and that could also be passed through to guardian so you would know if something enters your vr space (it would also make it a hell of a lot less disorienting if someone walks up to you when you've got headphones + vr on).

I want more middle ground options between goofy AR games where monsters hide behind your couch and VR poo poo that totally isolates you into VR space.

Now that apple have made people accept a separate battery I suppose we'll see that for the Quest 4

That fixed it, thanks man! :banjo:

But still, this machine is built the way hardware was built 15 years ago. Even transfering files from any pc to meta 3 is not an obvious process. For a while I tried airlink with cable but as soon as the file finished copying it disappeared (there was a massive number of tickets on the meta forums on this a while ago), so VD ended up being my best option. Then suddenly airlink started to work, haven't had an issue since.

Another weird thing is why can't the meta have its hdd space expanded by an ssd/sd card/whatever. This is a weird choice that no one likes, not even the 512gb owners, and if we consider the number of units vr porn alone can move (where a single 8k video can easily reach 30+ gigs) it's even more baffling. Meta 3 is technically high quality vr at an affordable price, so why is this "vr for the masses" built like an apple product? No one gives a gently caress about the metaverse. This is a loving brick that fails on so many basic tasks we've taken for granted since, huh, 2010?

(note that as I bitch about meta I can't stop playing AW2)

Yeah the best way to copy files over is to install SideQuest and use their file browser

The only problem with Alyx and inside out tracking headsets is that to put ammo in your inventory you drop it behind your shoulder, a place where inside out tracking is very bad at locating the controller. I played it on a Rift S, and it took me some time to learn to move the controller in the correct finicky way so I didn't just leave ammo strewn on the ground behind me. Patches and tracking improvements may have addressed this since, I haven't played it after close to release.

I haven't had any issues with this on Quest 3

I'm really enjoying Lies Beneath, it's the rare horror games which spends most of the time (so far) in the light.

A lot of newer vehicles are steer-by-wire and drive-by-wire, which means the steering wheel wheel and pedals aren't physically connected to anything mechanically. The steering wheel even has it's own "force feedback" motors in it. So if the car is turned off in your garage, why not let the wheel and pedals connect to a Quest 3 over bluetooth? Would save money/space/material vs a racing rig and be way heavier duty. Might have a longer warranty too!

Really realistic feedback in this game! Those sirens sound great

I finally tried Bonelab and it has some odd interface decisions IMO.

The main thing I have been taught to expect is that I will miss things because the game showed a brief interface hint of what to do for all of 2 seconds total while I was looking somewhere else, and now I'm on my own.

That's always puzzled me, actually. In VR the software knows where I'm looking (well, where my head is pointed at least and how much it's moving) yet devs in VR seem to make a lot of assumptions about where I'm looking, and where my assumed-to-be-undivided attention is at any given moment.

It took me a good half hour to realize I had an inventory yeah

But once you find the B menu and your body holsters it's all physical interaction from there

Sure until I got to the stage selects, and spent a lot of dumb time trying to open and walk through a door to get to the stage... when you actually have to use the controller like a laser-pointer on the chalkboard-looking menu to the right of said door to actually enter the stage.

I genuinely have no idea whether that's inconsistent UI design or some kind of joke, because the Bonelabs/works crew definitely think differently than I do.

The other bonelabs UI Boner is needing to force grab the avatar dice in the intro scene, I did it by accident the first time

Alyx's weapon switching is probably a relic of the past but IMO was great. Could be done in any position, used only big gross actions/movements that could be reliably done under stress, strong visual feedback, didn't need you to take your eyes off the action, etc. It maybe never caught on but it was really well conceived.

Now I do like me some holster mechanics, but not so much the accidentally dropping gun on the ground instead of into my holster, fumbling a draw, etc that comes with the territory. All of which happens with
Bonelabs' "everything is physical" angle.

Which is fine (and occasionally hilarious if nothing else) but also goes to show how jarring it is UI-wise when Bonelab suddenly doesn't do things that way for no apparent reason.

holstering was way better in boneworks for some reason
