Been following at least a couple of VR threads here, and got £400 to spend for a PCVR system. Thinking of buying a Quest and an extension cable though worried about getting tangled while moving around. Is it worth saving for an Index or buying the knuckles seperately (not that I've seen them for sale)?

I'd get the Quest. Might be you don't actually enjoy VR that much, then you've wasted £400, not the £919 an Index costs, and the Quest has the whole, "Play games without being tied up with a cable" aspect going for it, so you're not just getting an Index but worse.

Don't you need the cable to make the Quest PC ready?

Thanks for the replies, decided to go with a Rift S, mainly due to me having a decent enough gaming PC and the seemingly big improvement on gfx.

Is it worth buying an extender cable in case I start wrapping myself up and garotting myself with cable? I'll only be using VR in a 2m x 2m room.

Got a Rift S, having a lot of fun apart from with the Oculus software - I had to manually (via command prompt) install to D:\ as I couldn't get enough space on my windows C:\ drive and then when I go to install games to D:\Oculus I'm told that location path isn't available. Any one else had something similar happen to them?

Looking forward to burning some calories to Thrill of the Fight that in retrospect I should have bought on Steam.

Thanks for this, though if I'm remembering correctly it doesn't allow you to change from C:\Oculus on the installer, so if I create a C:\Partition\ on my D: drive it would still see the same path, no?

Hey, I don't know what I was thinking earlier, I'm back home now and I remembered a much easier way of doing this. I just don't use windows a lot myself since the win2000 days I guess that's why I keep forgetting but you can use links to achieve the same thing. Links are basically same as shortcuts, but at the filesystem level, rather than application level.

You can type "mklink /d c:\oculus d:\oculus" into command line and it's going to make a symbolic link from c:\oculus to d:\oculus. You might need to start cmd as admin.

Unless oculus software is doing something incredibly dumb (very unlikely) this will work just as well as mounting the drive there, but with less hassle as it's just copy-pasting a single line. Also, you won't accidentally delete the entire D drive when hitting delete on the c:\oculus folder, so you should definitely choose this option :v:

My Oculus is on D:\Oculus , so I typed mklink /d D:\Oculus C:\Oculus and was told cannot create a file when that file already exists...that folder doesn't exist on C:\ :iiam:

Well, I deleted the app, reinstalled, and it still decided that the library was on D:\Oculus as the unchangeable default. For some reason, with Oculus installed on C:\ it is now letting me install games to D:\Oculus . Beats me, but I ain't gonna moan. Now to get all sweaty with a boxer.

The one area where they might actually make some headway is VR, but I suspect its too small/inconsequential for anyone to care about. My suspicion is this will have some vague rules that they have to be more transparent, some token fines, and one or two small things forced to spin off. Facebook is a fun target right now because liberals think they are directly funding white power groups and conservatives think facebook is targeting them for censorship, so it's the rare "Everybody Likes That" when you go after them. But going after facebook but giving 0 thought or effort to actual privacy laws (like what the rest of the world has) should tell you everything you need to know about the outcomes here.

They're quite public about taking down various "far-right groups" internationally, I don't see how that corellates with privacy?

That's a big one. If you don't have MU-MIMO, your devices on the network take turns communicating with the router. That means that if your cell phone starts to do something in the background, it can affect the latency of Virtual Desktop.

My friend actually bought a MU-MIMO tri-band router just so he could use Virtual Desktop with both his and his girlfriend's Quests at the same time and have no drop in latency whatsoever. No interference with other devices on the router.

Does this work when my PC isn't connected to the router via ethernet?

My link isn't working atm so I'd quite like Virtual Desktop to not have high latency for PCVR - which so far hasn't worked well due to lag, and the other people in the house wouldn't be too impressed if I disconnected their wireless.

First time using DAINAPP for AI frame interpolation to boost it from 30 FPS to 60, it worked well enough that I generally can't tell the difference between a real frame and a fake one. Last animation was in 30 FPS and I don't think it really works for VR, you get a severe jittering effect if anything gets too close to you whereas it's generally not noticeable at 60. Only problem came at the very end when the app got confused and started outputting nonsense frames so I had to render the last 30 seconds or so in proper 60 FPS.

What is everyone using for a 360 degree video player? I have SkyBox, BigScreen, and DeoVR but they tend to be more IMAX theatre experiences...this video looks cool as so would be good to drift my trippy balls and watch.
