People who get worked up about "dumb" or "fake" names almost always do so over "trashy" (i.e. lower class white) names, "hippy" names, or "black" names, but only the last category gets called out for its shittiness. Arguments made about any one of those categories can be applied to the others, so before you go making fun of Coral Clove or Jayssyn or whatever, ask if you would do the same about someone named, say, Shaniqua. Ultimately, these are just cultural and/or class differences, and it's pretty lovely to go after someone for how they name their children. Once again, Chapo successfully predicts where conservatives are going. They had an episode back in like 2017 where they covered I think a Rod Dreher article that lamented the prevalence of sissification porn. It was right around the same time Rod wrote that infamous article about his friend who suspected his wife was possessed by a demon because she was too horny. These dudes would love nothing more than to be bimbofied.

Aside from the obvious Trump failchildren parallels, the really funny part about the whole chud obsession with Hunter is that unlike the Clintons or even Obamas, the airing of the Bidens' dirty laundry always ends up making Joe look more sympathetic and relatable as a politician. There's no connections to Epstein, no schmoozing with rock stars, etc. Just a father who's had to deal with huge personal loss and handle a drug-addled son who can't stop loving up but in ways that most Americans find endearing or admirable.

The really sad part about that interview, and right wing Jewish politics in general today, is that it’s basically the end result of a persecuted people progressively internalizing the logic of their oppressors. Rather than embracing the vibrant progressive tradition that existed in Ashkenazi Judaism pre-WWII, for instance, they embraced the most toxic variety of ethnic nationalism that was used as a weapon against them. The lesson of the Holocaust wasn’t that societies need to be tolerant and actively fight against racism; it’s that that the Jews needed their own ethnically pure, oppressive, nationalistic state. Basically right wing Jews have come to think like Nazis. It’s just amazing that with so much discussion and debate around politics and Israel this is so seldom openly acknowledged.

3D Megadoodoo posted:Seriouspost: is.that not just "inflation"? In modern economics, inflation is traditionally thought to be propelled by workers asking for higher wages, which drives a process economists call the wage-price spiral in which workers asking for higher wages forces companies to increase prices, which leads to workers asking for higher wages, and so on. "Greedflation" is a new term used by orthodox economists to describe inflation that's instead driven primarily by corporate profiteering in a process they called the profit-price spiral: corporations see that consumers expect prices to go up, so they raise prices accordingly, etc. I listen to a lot of mainstream economics podcasts and it's been at turns fascinating, hilarious, and deeply depressing to see how the whole inflation narrative has developed coming out of the pandemic. The line for ages was that supply chain disruption was the instigating factor but that the wage-price spiral was driving everything. But rigorous academic research has in recent months demonstrated clearly that corporate profiteering has been one of if not the main driver of sustained inflation since 2020. And yet, mainstream economists still bend over backwards to defend corporations by explaining that this is the result of businesses anticipating higher costs because of inflation, rather than, you know, exploiting the situation for the short-term profits that capitalism incentivizes. Basically, economics as a discipline treats corporate profit seeking as an organic force of nature that can only be described neutrally, whereas workers seeking higher wages is unnatural; in orthodox capitalist economics, nothing can be done about the former, whereas a lot can--and should--be done about the latter.

That means that if it starts trending towards another grand solar maximum it would greatly exacerbate anthropogenic climate change. Mind you, that would probably take a century or longer to occur, and we'll be hosed anyways by then. It is relevant to note, however, that the shortest cycle it experiences is an 11-year fluctuation, and in that cycle the last minimum occurred in 2019, meaning that it's only going to be ramping up for the next 7 years...

There are some hardcore and particularly vocal Q people who are actually projecting pedophiles (see that guy featured in This Place Rules, for example), but claiming that everyone who evangelizes about the Sound of Freedom or whatever is a secret pedophile is dumb and counterproductive. quote:Yeah but then you have things like "the guy who funded the child trafficking Qanon movie is a child trafficker"... Closeted ashamed homophobe can have a happy outcome when that person travels the road that results in them being openly gay and living authentically, but that's not a possible outcome for a pedophile so I can see how on balance you'd have more secret pedos in the insane militant anti-child trafficking movement than more secret gays in the insane militant anti-gay movement. Sorry but you need to apply some critical thinking to this evaluation, which is reductionist and unhelpful because it just dismisses all Q types as projecting pedophiles and obscures a lot of the very real and complex dynamics that have influenced this development. According to a February 2022 survey, 22% of Americans "believe that a “storm” is coming," while 16% "hold that the government, media and financial worlds are controlled by Satan-worshipping pedophiles" (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/feb/23/qanon-believers-increased-america-study-finds). Do you think every one of those people is a pedophile? Again, there are some prominent people in the movement who are undoubtedly projecting pedophiles, but that is not the vast majority of Q proponents. You do yourself a disservice by subscribing to such a simplistic perspective. Professor Beetus posted:It's not "haha everyone who gets sucked into the sound of freedom nonsense are blood gargling child trafficking pedophiles," it's that the people pushing this stuff are doing it under the guise of "protect the children" when everything they attempt to do makes children less safe and in fact pushes them into the arms of pastors, weird uncles, and other assorted actual groomers who largely aren't members of the lgbtq community. Most recent polls put Ramaswamy and DeSantis neck and neck behind Trump, and there's every indication that DeSantis' numbers will continue to fall because the more Republican voters see of him, the less they like him. If Trump were to kick the bucket within the next year, there's a very real chance that Vivek could be the Republican candidate.
