if the other thread is spamming you with reports, why are you closing a thread in a different forum entirely. USPOL is the thread so problematic that chain probations can't stop the reports, why not close it instead?

i'd agree about the medicaid bit, except that she actually wants to keep medicaid. it makes no sense, everyone eligible for medicaid currently would supposedly be covered under her public option. unless she's also not serious about the whole public option bit, and maybe that will be moved 2.5 years into the future in the next version of the bill.

quote:

Strengthen Medicaid

As president I will use administrative tools to strengthen Medicaid and potentially allow millions more to access the program.

Use waiver authority to increase Medicaid eligibility. With the approval of the federal government, states can use Section 1115 demonstration waivers to expand coverage to people who aren’t otherwise eligible for Medicaid. Currently, however, states can only obtain these waivers if projected federal spending under the new program will not be higher than without the waiver. While I pursue legislative reforms to expand coverage, I’ll also change this administrative restriction to allow these demonstrations to fulfill their promise of providing affordable health coverage, including working with states that want to expand Medicaid to uninsured individuals and families above the statutory upper limit of Medicaid (138% of the poverty level). Any state that chooses to expand in this way will not be penalized for doing so when full Medicare for All comes online.

Streamlining eligibility and enrollment. Far too many people miss out on Medicaid coverage because of red tape. Some states take coverage away if someone misses just one piece of mail or forgets to notify the state within 10 days of a change in income. These kinds of harsh policies help explain why more than a million children “disappeared” from the Medicaid and CHIP programs in the past year. I will eliminate these kinds of unfair practices, and instead work with states to make it easier for everyone – families, children, and people with disabilities – to maintain this essential coverage.

Ensuring access to care for beneficiaries in managed care plans. I’ll roll back the Trump administration’s proposed changes to rules regulating Medicaid managed care plans, which would dilute important standards, such as requiring health plans to maintain adequate provider networks guaranteeing access to care for Medicaid enrollees.

so, let's say that a family with 51 year old parents has a few children in their early 20s. the parents currently get insurance through their employer, which covers their children. warren's plan will make the parents eligible to buy the public option, but if they do so the children will then lose their coverage. so the parents now get the fun choice of sticking with lovely insurance that covers their childern, or improving their own coverage (and probably saving a ton of money) at the cost of their kids going uninsured.

great job of undoing one of the few good things about obamacare warren.

I guess I just see !polls! Still giving Biden favorable numbers despite him being the absolute worst shows that recognition is a huge thing. If she was the “president after trump” and if she VP’d Warren or Buttigieg she’d probably have a pretty good chance no?

by the time the senate somehow kicks out both trump and pence [not going to happen but hypotheically], it will be jan 2020 at the earliest. pelosi will be unable to register for the primaries in many states as it will be past the filing deadline, and at a massive disadvantage in the rest of the states. she could theoretically be appointed by superdelegates for a second term if nobody finishes the primary with a clear majority, but other people (bloomberg, deval, hillary clinton) are going to fight tooth and nail for superdelegates in that case.

If his goal was just to live in a big city, wouldn't staying a McKinsey consultant (or something similar) allow him to do that? I get the impression he specifically wants actual political power.

mckinsey consultants are well paid, but have a pretty bad lifestyle (60-70 hour mandatory minimum work weeks, away on business trips mon-fri every week for 11 months/year). a former worker posted a 'typical' schedule that goes from 7am to 12:30 am (95 hours/week, plus whatever billiable hours they put in at the mandatory weekend meetings!). the consultants tend to leave once they inevitably burn out after some years. because it is such a resume booster, younger pmc types tolerate this so that they can springboard into positions with better working conditions. you can't really claim to live in a big city working at mckinsey when you only spend 1 evening a week in the city.

in that nytimes article pete wrote about his vacation to somalialand, he lists this as his affiliation:

Peter Buttigieg is a management consultant in Chicago and a fellow at the Truman National Security Project.

truman national security project website posted:

Fellows are policy experts, academics, and other thought leaders who anticipate and articulate new global challenges and opportunities. Many work within the U.S. national security apparatus and legislative bodies, as well as the international community and an expansive network of nongovernmental and private organizations.

also, remember in his campaign announcement and the debates, when buttigieg talked about how climate change as a national security threat? guess where that comes from:

https://limacharlienews.com/politics-society/the-truman-national-security-project/

quote:

The organization’s [truman national security project's] current leadership points to discussions of climate change as a major national security issue, rather than solely an environmental or economic concern, as one such example. Truman President and CEO Michael Breen told Lima Charlie News, “The fact that there’s a national security conversation about climate change is largely due to Truman.”...

also lol that so many of the candidates that think tank endorsed ran in the democratic primary this year

quote:

In 2013, Truman unveiled a new strategy of running candidates for political office, as well as encouraging its members to engage more fully in the political process. This added strategy has given rise to the term “think-do-tank”. As traditional think tanks focus on mostly on policy, research, and advocacy, Truman staff and members are seeking to affect policy by holding the offices that create and vote on it. The group has also provided support for the Clinton campaign and down ballot progressive nominees.
...
To date, Truman has formally endorsed candidates in four U.S. Senate races, including Kamala Harris (D-CA), Katie McGinty (D-PA), Michael Bennett (D-CO), and Maggie Hassan (D-NH). In discussing endorsement decisions, Frank Spring clarified, “We want Truman endorsements to be tied to a reasonable package of support,” noting that Truman’s strategies for promoting and supporting members running at the state and local level are still being developed.
...
Three Truman members will be on the ballot for federal office this November alone. Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), Seth Moulton (MA-6), and John Plumb (NY-23) are all running for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Even more than that. There's no way his staffers are directly vetting and recruiting signature gatherers. The candidate's team finds one of several (incredibly shady) contractors who maintain signature gatherers on a gig basis or they rapidly vet and hire whatever their gig pool cannot handle. These outfits are hired guns, they will work for republicans, democrats, real estate developers (most often). They charge the campaign per signature, and give a portion of that to their gatherers. The fees are also dependent on the time constraints of the campaign. If the signature gathering contractor is paying $15 per signature, then you can be guaranteed that the campaign is paying $20-$30 per signature to its contractor.

The business of signature gathering is INCREDIBLY shady as there's a great incentive for those gatherers to commit fraud and fabricate signatures. Thus a "fraud rate" is calculated, so if you need 1500 signatures, you collect 1750 or 2500 if you really don't want to be bounced by thesecretary of state. The signatures are investigated by statistical analysis from a randomly chosen set of submitted signatures, where they actually DO check signatures against voter regs.

This whole system exists for billionaires to sidestep the democratic process of sig gathering that non billionaires must do.

THE MORE YOU KNOW

when i was gathering signatures for bernie to be on the ballot in va there was this incredibly dire text at the bottom that threatened anyone caught falsifying signatures with 10 years in prison. so i guess the companies just leave anyone who gets caught falsifying signatures out to dry, despite having received 50% of the payment for the fraud?

also, it feels good to know that the signatures i gathered for bernie had a market price of $900.

the barriers to getting on the ballot as a third party are extremely high in OK tho, it's pretty bad and needs to change
