So many people say this and I don�t get why there�s such an all-or-nothing attitude about this. I walked away from an 80mph highside because of my gear; no way I�d have survived landing on my face without a drat good helmet.

Yeah, even as a programmer you have to be the right kind of programmer to make good money. I�ve worked in the games industry all over California and basically none of them pay a living wage until you hit senior / lead levels.

I�m now horrified in retrospect that my brother let me (in my... mid 20s, I guess? Peak male stupid) use his table saw while I was house sitting for him on vacation. He told me about push sticks but nothing else. I had grand plans for a thing I was going to build, until after a few runs on the saw, a 1x1 piece of cutoff rockets past me and slams into the garage door with a bang. Luckily I was standing off to the side, but I definitely abandoned the project after that.

I did a bit of research, the company is �Immersion� and they�re not sitting on it, they�re licensing it for hundreds of millions of dollars a year. A 64-person company took on Microsoft, Sony, and Apple for various infractions over the years AND WON, so I think their patents are pretty solid. The original FFB patents expired in 2019, but the Nintendo Switch licensed their technology in �a multi-year agreement� so I don�t think they�re dead yet.

I got the impression by he was worried about screwing up the landing gear and possibly his career? I�m not a pilot so I don�t know how severe the long-term consequences of such a mistake would be but I could see someone with anxiety/depression getting worked up enough to barf / self-harm over something like that.
