So not to piss on anyone’s parade but here’s the view from a semi-rural, massively-Tory constituency:

I don't think it's any surprise that there are gonna be a lot of (mostly rural) constituencies which are never gonna be anything but blue. I actually know your area well (used to live in Buckingham and MK) and it doesn't surprise me at all that where you are is absolute Tory-town. In most of the villages out there I'd be surprised to find a 2-bed for less than £250k.

Still, maybe at some point in the future when all the boomers die off these places will start turning red.

Bit late but when I got in my car this morning the first thing I heard on (Canadian) radio was “In London, *dong, dong* mourners have gathered to pay respect to... those who lost their lives in a terror attack...”.

Immediately thought “Holy poo poo!” Then “oh, yeah”.

I genuinely think the right are going to be kicking themselves next week for devoting so much time on the anti-Semitism smears. I've spoken to hundreds of voters this campaign and it's come up maybe ten times.

I used to work in an office with 3 "ordinary blokes" who weren't fans of Corbyn particularly but we had a conversation that was basically the following:

Boss: "What's all this antisemitism thing?"
Me: *briefly explains that it's mostly because Corbyn doesn't like what Israel is doing to Palestinians and why he's right"
Boss: "Ah right, that makes sense. I just don't get why you would have anything against Jews anyway, I'm not sure I've ever known any"

And the other guys in the office basically agreed that they didn't really believe he was antisemitic (though they just didn't like him anyway) and I think that even if he were proven antisemitic, the reaction from those guys would have just been a shrug. Which sucks, because obviously people should care about racism, but obviously anybody who *actually* cares about racism isn't going to be voting for the Tories anyway.

I really do not think it's landing like they hope it is.

Yeah other polls ask a number of people stuff including how likely they are to vote, and then apply "weightings" to adjust the numbers based on how likely they actually are to vote based on some combination of their responses, their age, etc. etc.

Exit polling you don't need to do that, you just need to ask enough people, and you know they've actually voted.

Can still get it wrong mind.

The mirror definitely has the right idea with this story though, if the Tories want to claim the picture is a fake just publish a different one. Let them play catch up, it's not like these are isolated incidents.

Yeah this is exactly it. I saw "Matt Hancock has gone to Leeds to deal with the problem" but the problem isn't just one nurse or doctor or even one ward at one hospital, it's systemic, it's everywhere. Very much like the Tories to treat the symptom and not the disease.

The mask in front of the kid is a non-rebreather mask, usually used for delivering high-flow O2. The tweet is correct that if he needed to wear one he'd be very sick and probably have a bed in resus or even ITU.

However, he isn't wearing it. It's just placed near his face. Which is a pretty common way of providing a small amount of O2 to kids or anyone else who won't tolerate wearing a tight-fitting oxygen mask constantly. Instead of making them wear a low-flow mask, you put a high-flow mask a few inches away so they get some of the benefit. You don't get a well-controlled percentage of oxygen that way, but you get some extra and the kid isn't constantly trying to rip the mask off.

So a kernel of truth, but either not looking at the picture properly or just lying.

Did you just copy and paste Jabby's twitter post? :D

E: Or maybe you also posted this on twitter and I saw it there. I don't know, I've confused myself, sure I saw this exact wording somewhere else just now.

Small jars of coffee, jams and things, UHT milk (remember most food banks have no means of storing perishable items and people dependent on food banks may also have limited access to fridges etc). I know our local food bank opens only on Friday mornings and they get a donation from a local grocer every Friday morning so they can put some fresh fruit and veg in the boxes, but outside of that there is no means for preserving it.

Yeah I've posted this before but doesn't hurt to do it again:

Check with your local food bank. Most have websites these days. Mine had one which told you what they need and importantly what they currently have too much of. Interestingly mine always had too many tins of beans, pasta, cereal and ladies sanitary products. Some food banks will also put leaflets by the donation bins which give you a guide of what kind of things they need.

Commonly on the list for my local one was:

Tinned fruit and veg.
Tinned tomatoes.
Tinned meat.
Tinned custard/rice pudding.
Pasta sauce.
Long life milk/fruit juice.
Spreads (peanut butter, jam etc.)
