I still have that transformer somewhere in a box. 13-year old me loved the extra nacelle and phaser cannon. 39-year old me wouldn’t mind seeing it again as an example of where Starfleet has gone kinda nuts with their militarization.

Yeah, she did. I think she might not have in the movies though.

She had to remind the Picard producers that she wore contacts, then went so far as to dig them out and the wig she wore in Nemesis so they could reuse them for the show.

I mean forget how you can even get "fired" because of the actions of another (you can get court-martialed for a crime or violation of ethics), she got fired from her job and lost her healthcare, that's the writing shorthand being used. Because apparently the audience are dummies and need it framed this way.

I’d wager nobody on staff was in the Navy or any military for that matter.

Why is it always the loving Irish on this show? Was there some 90s obsession in America with the Irish that I'm not aware of?

I recall a general interest in Scottish and Irish culture kicking up after Braveheart came out. Rob Roy came out before that too. A buncha girls in college had Celtic-style tapestries and knick knacks.

The events in the TV show are all official Federation footage, filmed in first person, by an intangible alien. I do wonder what kind of surveillance Trek has. People are constantly getting away with poo poo that seems like any ship with that super google nest ship installed would inherently involve some level of surveillance, but generally things seem pretty private. Maybe more private than what we have now. I remember in Disco there was maybe some Spock footage from some kind of surveillance camera but they kind of made it seem pretty low-tech IIRC. And then maybe the footage was doctored ands it was hard for them to tell? Suppose overall should be glad they haven't leaned into surveillance state darkness.

How many times in classic Trek did the plot involve someone being kidnapped off the ship and the computer never bothered to alert anyone that someone was no longer aboard?

I'm wondering if once we cross that threshold that we'll be met with the new life and new civilizations from a multi-galactic version of the Federation (or maybe the Dominion). We'd be the podunk backwoods hillfolk in this new era, and it could free them up from having to deal with the shrinking frontiers of the Milky Way (I mean, we all know there are hundreds of thousands of species that could still be out there, but I could see some writer's room producers saying that we've already been to all four quadrants). It'd easily tie into DSC season 3 in that maybe some of the Federation's member races joined the new alliance, or maybe humanity and some friends did and the remnants became the V'Draysh.

I’d be interested to know how many of you think you’ll go back and rewatch this season. I felt like it was an okay setup, with a few well done moments sprinkled throughout, but nothing compelling enough for a rewatch. And since it’s serialized, there’s even less of a reason to pop on a random episode. Whatever poster said it could’ve been a better two-hour movie was spot on.

I also doubt they'll do Picard vs. The Borg again, given all their talk about not wanting to make the show TNG part II. I am hoping for Picard working with the xBs somehow.

Would’ve been better if they’d waited long enough for the original Bruce Maddox actor to join up. He’s teaching theatre or something now, but I don’t recall seeing anything mentioning whether they’d reached out to him to see if he’d still be interested in playing the part. It was cool seeing him pop up in The Shawshank Redemption too.

Not sure why Saru doesn’t just tell Giorgio to gently caress off back to her room. She’s not in the ship’s chain of command and has no business being anywhere decisions are made.

Retrowave Joe
Jul 20, 2001

Everything not involving Giorgio was pretty good. Stamets/Jet scenes were funny, Saru is an excellent captain that embodies the Federation ideals, and the rest of the crew had their moments. If the writers could flush the last remnants of the shitshow they were dealing with under the last showrunner (Section 31, Control, that crewmate that said yum yum) I think they’d be in good shape.

e: Disco Elysium sold like hotcakes. You just write up a mystery plot episode and then use that formula, except instead of interior voices it's the crew offering different opinions and options.

Disco Elysium was the best game I played in the last decade, so a TNG game like that could be phenomenal. Bonus points if every time Worf suggests something the first dialogue option is to say no.

Dilithium is basically the screwdriver in the Demon Core incident

Edit: Which would imply there’s a safer way to regulate matter/antimatter reactions and also plays into that old joke about other alien races being terrified of humans because of how flippantly dangerous we are.
