dina(ellies love) sounds like one of the few folks who lives through the game. its not going "bury gays here" trope at all apperently. it sounds more like they are doing a blood meridian type deal

the only time i got legit mad at spoilers was the batman arkham origins game but even that legit showed its hand from the beginning so it wasnt much of a spoiler. the story like this sounds dumb but so where the uncharted games but they were fun and well told for the most part(4 was up its own rear end too much but lost legacy was better) i may very well pick this up since all the game i am hyped for are at least 2 or 3 or more months out. the big issue i am gonna have is probaly the same issue i had with uncharted 4. where the characters and story went super duper introspective in a mixed bag way and this will be similar.

I'm just interested if there's more gameplay because replaying TLOU1 reminds you of how much freakin' walking around there is. Uncharted 4 really suffered for this as well which sucked because the combat was fun but you mostly walked around which made me wish I'd just bought something else and watched a playthrough on YouTube or something. I'm expecting more of the same with TLOU2, a hell of a lot of walking around and maybe three or four really well-designed combat encounters that are super fun and make you realize how much potential was wasted.

I'd love to be surprised as well but it looks like they've been really unimaginative with the infected in TLOU2 and are still sticking to humanoid designs. We've seen one new type of clicker and another bloater type that just spews gas but I was hoping we'd see freaky stuff like this concept art for the first game:

The mechanics seem more advanced at least but it basically went from gears of war with brawling to ghost recon with brawling, which I am fine with. Also I am not really against the hosed up gore, because I feel like “Teflon” violence is kinda more hosed up than realistic/“realistic”/mortal kombat.

lol. most of the reviews seem to be that the messaging is "it doesnt go beyond "the cycle of violence is hosed up and bad" which seems pretty on point. like a part of me is cool with ND pulling no loving punches and showing all of this poo poo as horribly as possible trying to go full blood meridian and Come and see. but the issue is those other pieces had other messages too. i keep hearing that while the characters are good and while there is other good story stuff. the overlwelming horribleness is overdone and it dampens the other stuff.

though, i am sorta amused at some critics complaining that it makes them feel bad, which i think the game is supposed to make you feel bad and gross, but thats more personal taste. that being said, i am gonna wait for some critique videos by youtubers i like and wait for it to go on sale on the ps5.

niko spent an entire decade hunting this dude and killed hundreds to get to him. you kill him and niko says to himself that he feels empty at the end of it. he's become a broken man. in essence, he's no different from darko who sold out his mates for money as niko ends up betraying everyone he worked with in LC for money and becomes the very thing he's been hunting this whole time. that to me is way more poignant than ellie sparing abby and lev at the end.

Every character is the hero of their own story. Joel killed so many people for Ellie, and form his perspective it was justified. Ellie killed so many people for Joel, and from her perspective, it was justified. Abby killed Joel, and from her perspective it was justified. The people Joel killed were not justified from Abby’s perspective. Abby’s killing of Joel was not justified from Ellie’s perspective. Or not even justification, but acceptance. The point to me is that just like everyone is the hero of their own story, they’re also the villain of someone else’s story. We rooted for Joel and Ellie because they were our protagonists, but from a different perspective they were mass murderers.

In It For The Tank posted:

Assuming that we can't just axe the story and start again from scratch, a potentially more interesting way to tell the same story while maintaining the unusual non-linear, multi-protagonist story structure would be to start with Abby on Seattle Day 1.

Things proceed like the game but explicit references to Joel's murder would be removed so Abby and her friends only vaguely reference recently tracking down some evil bastard and taking revenge. Intersperse the story with scenes with Abby and her dad showing how much they love each other, which gradually hint more and more that he was the Firefly surgeon until it is revealed just before you get to the theatre on Day 3. There, you confront Ellie and you're like "woah wtf".

Then time rewinds to show Ellie's story and you see Abby and her friends, who you have presumably grown to like in the first half of the game, brutally torture and kill Joel. The game proceeds with Ellie's perspective and you end the game with her putting her switchblade through Abby's heart in the theatre and cut out the unnecessary coda with the Rattlers. Or not, who cares.

By putting Abby murdering Joel first, they permanently turned much of the audience (if the general user reaction is to be believed) against her. Try as they might, walking back from that and earning the audience's empathy requires much better writing than what they gave us. So, since they were committed to the ill-advised dual-protagonist story structure, a better option probably would have been to just tell Abby's story first and make the audience root for her until they pull the rug out from under you and then switch to Ellie.

this. but i also think alot of the stuff would have worked better if the stuff hadnt leaked. espcially since the leaks didnt really get everything or even the real ending.
