I think it technically is the same project, just originally it was Affleck starring and directing... then just starring and Reeves got attached... then Affleck dropped out and they pivoted to Pattison and a younger Wayne.

At the very least, letting Warner drive the narrative by having all the info we get about the issues come through them or from 'anonymous sources' on their side doesn't help Fisher from a PR stance. Especially if the practical upshot is he signs a gag order meaning he can't talk about them and all of a sudden, Warner can just ignore the issues after paying lipservice to whatever deal they make. Talking about this stuff via a friendly journalist or social media isn't about that being the only avenue, it's about giving yourself control of the story that's presented to the public. So far, the most concrete things we have are that he heard third hand from someone that Whedon had the editor use colour correction to lighten someone's skin, which the studio and Whedon denied without much pushback, and Momoa and Gadot agreeing that Whedon was an rear end in a top hat. That's not exactly painting a vivid picture of the abuse for those that weren't there.

Pretty interesting and hilarious if the X-Men will be (and therefore already are?) implicitly part of the MCU via Deadpool.

I imagine the first scene is some kind of thing where Cable and Deadpool (and maybe Domino) pop through a time portal in the middle of Endgame's big fight scene, cue Reynolds yelling "WHAT DID YOU DO?!?"

Real talk, I kind of hope they dial back in on the balance between humour and pathos, because I think they messed it up in the second one, largely by killing off Vanessa. Bacarin and Reynolds played off each other so well in the first one, and I liked that the one thing they took pretty much seriously in that one was that relationship. Not that they couldn't have fun, but it wasn't a joke that they were in love, and it let Reynolds act the poo poo out of stuff like the scene where he's diagnosed with cancer or when he can't face her in the strip club.

No, you see, Zack isn't a racist therefore his film is so good it cures cancer and it's only Disney paying off critics that kept it from being released before

Honestly the thing that irritates me about this situation is the conflation of Snyder being apparently a good manager with being a good director.

I'll probably watch it, and I'll probably not sit there for four hours with it. So either way its probably a "mini series" to me.

Gaz-L

There's also the fact that Snyder's Watchmen (which i do actually like a decent amount) runs into the weird thing where it keeps thing so close to the book but colours them with his directorial style so they don't make sense. Like, we're supposed to be disturbed at the violence Rorschach and even Dan and Laurie mete out in the prison break, and yet he shoots it in his usual speed-ramp, lurid, torture porn style.

Really, the key issue is basically borne out in every single interaction Snyder has had outside of his cadre of devoted fanboys. Any time someone goes "Would Superman really not know murder was bad until doing one?" or "Why does Pa Kent want kids to die?" he basically mocks them as basement dwelling virgins who don't know the Real World where Hard Men Make Hard Choices and lol, go back to your cheetos nerd... Which look... I'm not saying he has to pander to ever dork on the internet, but if that's your response to fairly minor critiques of your tone, it's fair to say you don't actually enjoy the genre, you enjoy the vague notion of the IP but are too wrapped up in being Adult and Serious to actually enjoy it or have fun. Same issue Michael Bay and Transformers has.

And yes, it's cool he wanted to make Cyborg a focal part so there was a POC in the heart of the film, it's cool that he wants to use the New Gods, it's cool he cast a Black woman as Iris West (although he can hardly claim credit for that as an original idea), none of those laudable points change that even his 'good' movies are clunky, conservative, bleak noise fests that mangle whatever points the source material may have had. gently caress, look at Sucker Punch, which may genuinely have been him trying to be a feminist ally.

The armour has cropped up a bunch since Kingdom Come as well. Simone's WW run had all 3 Wonder ladies with one, Donna's was silver, and Cassie's was bronze, which... I get what they were aiming for but I'm not sure the latter doesn't come off as a backhanded compliment.

And the invisible plane is one of those things they kind of have to do in some way apparently because drat near everything has it. I actually liked the bit in Rucka's first run where she was on a book tour and deflects a question about it at Q&A and then grumbles to her assistant like "If I never get another question about the plane, it'll be too soon".

I'm not saying they'll explicitly make JJJ racist, but the context clues do imply that he is.

e: they messed up BIG TIME by not covering J.K. Simmons in rolexes.

In fairness, isn't that similar to the direction in the comics, with JJ as a right-wing crank with a vlog? With the obvious twist that once comic Jonah found out Peter was Spidey he immediately changed his tune and became comically overblown in praising him?

The thing I don't get about turning JJJ into an Alex Jones type is that he's supposed to be Peter's pain in the rear end boss who ultimately has a heart of gold, even if he hates Spider-Man. So he should probably be penny-pinching administrator at whatever school Peter ends up teaching at, or a federal regulator who shows up to ruin Parker Industries for their flagrant violations of safety protocols, or something.

The other thing is how the types of figures that modern JJJ tends to parody would sell their grandma for a wood nickel. That's not "rear end in a top hat with a heart of gold" material.

Ahmed actually did this with the vice principal of Miles' school who loved the new Spider-Man but thought Miles was a brat and a ditcher.

Disney probably have the figures on how well Mulan and Soul did, and they are saying that some stuff is going to D+, but mostly stuff that wouldn't have done gangbusters at the box office, just modest numbers.

The other studios are likely gunshy both because no-one bit on the Bond deal MGM were shopping, and the backlash Warner got from the HBO Max thing. Plus Sony and MGM don't directly own a streaming platform that anyone would actually use.
