I forgot to suggest Toy Galaxy!

As you'll have guessed there's a focus on toys, but also on pop culture generally, especially TV shows that are perhaps of their time, such as this, his latest on Eerie Indiana:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67vm5wwSavs

Also does well-researched deep-dives into major toylines like Transformers and GI Joe and oddities like Pepsi Man. And just shows off toys.

The Bolognese recipe he just did looks interesting, nothing like how I've done it, like having cream in, and I've no idea if it's more or less authentic. His Carbonara apparently is, I watched a reaction vid by an Italian chef who took little issue with it, although there was also an Americanised version he didn't submit himself to.

Plus a lot of the Binging recipes are simple or comprised of simple components, like the Parks and Rec breakfast recently which teaches two types of hash brown and chicken fried steak, among other things.

I wonder how long it's going to take for people to be able to discuss Cyberpunks narrative, as opposed to the technical issues and CDPRs business and labour practices, and maybe contrast it to Fallout. CP not only locks content on the regular, it masks a lot of the branching. I started over a short way into chapter 2 as I felt I messed up the build and missed a legendary weapon. One outcome changed and I have no idea why, and I think I was locked out of a side quest chain over a minor decision.

I was lucky enough not to encounter any bugs or performance issues (aside from occasional minor stuff like one background NPC clipping through another) so I got to experience the game more or less as it was intended and overall I love it. The look and feel of the city was brilliant, the story kept me engaged and the combat felt like a better version of Fallout’s, which I already liked.

The one big gripe I have about it is the constant revolving door of weapon and armor upgrades. Witcher 3 had the same issue, but at least there you could go on quests for special equipment sets that would last a reasonably long time. Not so in this game. You can barely get used to a gun by the time it becomes obsolete, and upgrading hardly improves it at all.

I think if you look to a guide you can get a scaling legendary of any weapon type you wish quite easily. But otherwise yes you need to examine every gun you get for slight benefits.

Precisely 3 years after their first episode, the Shrieking Shack podcast has finally completed their readthrough/critique of the Harry Potter series.

If you want to listen to two ex-megafans rip mercilessly into Harry Potter I thoroughly recommend it. The books are far more bizarre and terrible than I'd remembered them - halfway through the series it becomes obvious JK has thoroughly stopped caring about the light, comedic story she's actually decent at and instead used it as a way to fulfill her true dream of writing stupid detective stories about Great Man Albus Dumbledore versus psycho child killers. The hosts are fantastic when it comes to making fun of everything to do with Harry Potter, but also when they need to have a serious discussion about the numerous heinous things JK has done over the years (and they started the podcast out knowing she was a TERF so there's thankfully no Rowling praise or anything).

This is the only podcast I've actually listened to every single episode of. I'm excited for what they'll do next.

Not read HP due to thinking it seemed derivative at the time (and also being in at least college when the marketing that really made it anything took off) but I might give this a go, at least know the story without the effort or giving Joanne any money. 150 episodes though, goddamn. Well done to them ending on a pleasing round number though.

WHAT, so I only just learned this on Mass Effect talk one more time, because I'm starting that trilogy now after years of not playing and sifting through some not big alterations mods.

"As part of a workaround for a programming issue, Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale voiced all of the lines for both human romances in Mass Effect even though the romances were intended to be exclusively heterosexual. As these voiced lines remain in the game, Kaidan and Ashley can be romanced by same-sex Shepards through the use of save edits, although some of the dialogue options are missing and Shepard will be addressed as a member of the opposite sex."

Modders have thankfully also long since fixed the misgendering lines among other bits, a lot of this unused dual audio deal extends into ME2 and 3 and has been modded there as well, so you can gay Thane or Garrus it up too.

Reminds me how Axton in Borderlands 2 was accidentally made bi when voice lines meant for when he revived female team mates could trigger for anyone. He subsequently makes references to it in DLC.

To split hairs there's a difference between shows conceived to market a toyline and shows that include marketable elements in exchange for sponorship and/or investment (though both can produce good shows).

Yeah, though gundam did have toys from the start, but they were a weird mishmash of infamously low quality stuff. Bandai in particular only came on as a sponsor a bit later, with gunpla starting in 1980.

The (RX-78-2) Gundam's colour scheme is supposedly a compromise to make it more toyetic, with them smuggling the less flashy, equally iconic Zaku that they were attached to by it being a grunt unit. The Gundam's signature pristine white with bright blue, red and yellow is sometimes explained in-universe as being "parade" colours meant more for display, but they are replicated throughout the franchise, which can probably be shrugged off as invoking the legendary reputation of the original.
