Random question. I've just noticed that I'm not paying anything for broadband. I'm on Three and on a rolling monthly contract. It was all fixed payments until September when they paid me £30, and from then they've been billing me for £0.00 a month. Service hasn't been interrupted in any way and I've had no correspondence saying anything's up. You reckon just sit on it and wait for them to realise something's up?

# ¿ Dec 11, 2020 09:52 |

Thanks all. I've been doing some research and apparently this isn't that uncommon with Three as their billing department is all hosed up right now. Going to wait for them to figure it out.

This Zoom call is a no-win situation. Don't do it. Whatever you do will inevitably a) piss off your sister b) confuse your niece c) make you feel like poo poo.

# ¿ Dec 15, 2020 09:37 |

As far as I can see the only way to make this Zoom call work is to not take it seriously and turn it into a live-action pantomime in which you have an OTT Scrooge-like conversion to the concept of Christmas. If it's a performance your niece will be entertained, you're not really lying if you're obviously playing a character and it's difficult for your sister to push back against silly ridiculousness.

It really is true that a lot of politicians are, when you're interacting with them directly, apparently very nice people. Blair, Boris and - weirdly - Gove are all people I loving despise but have also met in person and had to constantly remind myself that they were hateful, evil pricks.

She was doing some weird publicity thing with a board you stuck stickers on indicating whether you liked Brexit or not. I went and had a conversation with her and she was actually one the most charmless, bland, easily annoyed people I’d ever met. Gentle ribbing about CUK was met with poorly concealed grimacing fury, so I decided to prod a bit further and give her poo poo for all kinds of issues and she basically got into a huff and walked off lol. Her husband was much better at it and maintained a calm good humour through it all. please go into more details about the gentle ribbing

A weird random question, but I'm writing a review of an Animal Farm game that's basically a choose your own adventure with light farm management aspects. I've always thought the tragedy of the book is that the animals' revolutionary ideals were correct but the tragedy is how they were perverted. The point of the game is that you can try other plots like ditching Napoleon early on and try other methods of animalism/socialism. Problem is there is no happy ending in the game - every outcome of socialism in it is bad. I want to say in my review that this feels really cynical and something a committed socialist like Orwell wouldn't have agreed with. Does that make sense?

Guavanaut posted:Is there an option where you can carry on with being run by the farmers and that's also terrible/even worse? Orwell would probably be down with "every option bad but some worse" more than "every socialist option has some ills". So far the endings I've gotten are: - crops fail, animals go feral and eat each other - surrender and let humans take over, who slaughter all revolutionary animals - all animals die in battle, farm abandoned - authoritarian tyranny under Napoleon (basically the book ending) There are other endings, but from what I've seen online none are particularly happy.

man I just had a depressing call with my Mum - she's a geriatric palliative care nurse and all her patients are dying. I mean, she's palliative care so that's expected, but everything is so stretched right now that they're dying a hell of a lot faster as there's no hospital beds or facilities available. At least she's vaccinated herself now.

jacksbrat posted:Oh that's grim. I hope the patients can still be made as comfortable as possible. Yeah - also I guess it's just going to be the kind of deaths that aren't going to be reported. Sure a lot of these people were going to die within the next year covid or no covid but there's this tension around that if you take a turn for the worse now there's no coming back from it.

it is incredibly frustrating that the right can invent a vague story about a left figure being a bit sus and everyone leaps to believe it and abandons their comrade. Meanwhile you can have concrete evidence that a right wing politician is a serial sexual harasser, corrupt as gently caress and explicitly a racist piece of poo poo and they just shrug and go "who gives a poo poo".
