I'd fully recommend going into this game blind. Having to work out what things mean (HUNT HIS KIN, BURN THEIR CHILDREN, etc) and finding new things is all part of the fun. This is probably the best £15 i've ever spent on a game and it took no time at all for me and my usual group to set up a 10 man server where we're making ridiculously cool looking viking villages. Suggestions for OP by the way: Stress the importance of actually cooking food and getting the rested buff. I've seen tons of people about to bounce off this game before I go "hey, cook some meat, idiot" and then they marvel as their stamina triples.

I was trying to build a mini highway into the Dark Forest with the Hoe's pathing tool but its pretty rough. I just dragged it across, but I had scouted out some copper first while I was looking for dungeons. Meant I had a fairly well mapped path of where I wanted to go. Think I got all the copper I wanted in two/three trips.

Got me and a friend some ocean stuff tonight. Spent a couple hours just sailing around, exploring, killing "the things" and now we have extra good meat and shields. Turns out he actually knows a couple of sea shanties too, so our discord server listened for a couple of songs before telling us to knock it off because we can't sing. Understandable, tbh. I definitely can't.

Just as they're about to hit you, it'll make a stagger happen. Granted i'm using a form of tower shield, so you literally can't parry with it. Make your your actual shield has parry on its stats.

The first one we found nearest the elder was a tiny patch without even a single one. We'd be talking a half hour journey each way just to smelt some metal. I don't think the game would suffer if you smoothed out that process a little and made it easier to get your new forward bases up to scratch with your old ones. The first time you do it, you'll probably get 120 ore plus whatever you can carry. The second time you do it, if you take a boat, you can get around 500 plus whatever you can carry. There's probably more iron closer to you, but i guess it depends on the seed.

Throw a harpoon at them as they go to run away, eventually they "forget" they they should be running and start attacking the boat again. I don't bother dragging them to shore. I just get them down to 1 arrow shot away from death, harpoon them as they start running, then jump in the water as they come back at the boat, firing an arrow as i land on it. I usually get most of the scales and I don't have to bother dragging it for 5 minutes.

I built three bases, in the end. One in the meadows with the community. We had plans to do community things but what that actually meant was "we'll just keep moving our stuff away and not tell anyone" so gently caress em I guess. One by the swamp/black forest/mountain/plains (i found a tiny, tiny meadow in between all five) and its a loving warzone. This is where I actually live. One plains base, but that's a goblin tower that i've cleared out, put a moat around, walled off and use it to just farm flax and barley with impunity. I have tons of little outposts everywhere. I don't think you should be too attached to any one place until you get a bunch of smelters and farmland down.

Telling people that troll leather armour is completely ok for the whole game is a bit if a dick move, imo. I mean sure if they never stop paying attention and block the harder enemies every time, then sure. But the better armour means you can play a little lazier (and won't get one shot by an enemy you've not seen before/that's snuck up on you)
