I’m glad we have such a wealth of expert knowledge in auspol, although it does make me question why we even need bodies like the AHPPC and ATAGI. Abolish them and just give premiers a copy of the monthly word cloud as their public health advice.

ComStar, if this were a decision made on legitimate public health grounds do you think:

The PM/Health Minister/CMO might have treated it as a key part of the announceables coming out of national cabinet, rather than stumbling across it in response to a question about GO indemnity?

Do you think ATAGI might come out in support of it, especially given a week previously they had raised the age recommended for AZ?

Do you think the AHPPC might come out in support, rather than members leaking against it?

All the evidence we have points to us completely rewriting public health policy because the Government refuses to admit that the PM misspoke at a press conference.

The NSW government has a massive collection of incredibly dumb humans who will 100% open em up leading to the big lockie D in a month

I think those numbers indicate that NSWs previous approach of trusting contact tracing to get on top of an outbreak in the community just can’t work for delta strain.

Lots of commentary on the cost of lockdown, not much commentary on the enormous economic benefits if we just let the entire population of NSW die. Would put serious upward pressure on wage growth, downward pressure on house prices, and many estates would have no surviving benefactors so would be a real boon for the balance sheets of QLD, SA, VIC and ACT after figuring out partition of territories.

Also remember how this NSW outbreak started because of a guy that drove the crew from a freight plane?

I agree this is definitely a problem the states made and definitely not the fault of the federal government due to their failure in:

a. The quarantine failures are the Federal govt fault for not taking resonsibility for something that is in fact their responsibility. There has been more than enough time for a dedicated facility that could have expanded traveller caps.

b. The fact sports / business people and celebrities are allowed to come in and out while tens of thousands of ordinary Australians have to sit by and just take it isnt the fault of the states.

c. The vaccination rollout and messaging has been a disaster from rear end in a top hat to breakfast, almost all of that due to the federal sphere leaving a population almost uniquely in the world vunerable to Covid Delta

Australians have more sympathy for those who have been cut off from either coming home or from family than you seem to presume and I for one completely understand what those are going through as I have skin in this game. Again, it's the Fed's fault, not the states.

Said "medical" advice was based on the presumption spread of Covid would be near zero and not based on the science the available vaccine was actually very safe. This one small outbreak has put more people in hospital than the entire AZ vaccination programme of several million doses.

https://covidlive.com.au/report/daily-hospitalised/nsw

Yes, and I trust ATAGI to reassess the exposure risk and issue new advice if they deem it necessary rather than going off the word of some internet shut-ins and a twice-sacked marketing executive from the shire.

It’s honestly astounding that you seem to think that following the advice of the expert body established specifically to provide this kind of advice is some kind of fringe position.
