bernkastel is pretty simple, really. She's the "jaded witch" part of rika's personality spun off into its own body, with bonus magic powers because she's an Umineko character. That's about it

look, if people could handle OG1's animations,

quote:

*Kirby: Planet Robobot
*Kirby Super Star Ultra (Units Only)
never realized just how many quasi-mecha this game had. flagship Halberd? playable Dyna Blade? classic!Kablua piloted by King Dedede & Bandana Dee?? also: imo, the level in Milky Way Wishes where you shoot out Galactic Nova's internal cores is an srw stage waiting to happen... alas, the intricacies of the Kirby timeline do not permit it

conclusion: solid series list, but if I played a game with granbelm in it and there wasn't a secret to save anna, I would cry. +an alternate granbelm route where you convince suishou the floating castle/root of magic is the source of her angst and team up with her to bring it down... granbelm being a battle royale means it has basically endless secret/route possibilities, really

I'm just jonesing for a Magiaconatus fight. It's up there floating ominously in the sky from the start of the series, but it never reveals a death cannon or transforms into a mecha or anything

yeah i figured the granbelm metaplot stuff can tie into geass, kannazuki, and kirby. maybe magiconatus and nova are the same thing? or similar things? robobot confirms multiple novas exist so magiaconatus could be something of the same 'species'
now this is the kind of crossover twist srw games live for. plus it gives an excuse for granbelm units to keep working after the granbelm finale. "uhhhh you blew up magiaconatus but all the other novas are still perpetuating magic throughout the galaxy in accordance with the wish that brought it into existence 30,000 years ago. sorry 'bout that. on the bright side, you aren't a ghost!"

I read ahead a bit in Mieruko-chan and I see just enough of what people like about it to get annoyed, because through 3 volumes it really has shown some ability to do interesting and emotional stuff with the premise and there's a lot of really striking art, but even once the *super* uncomfortable horniness gets toned down, you still have to sit through a lot of pages where the only real joke is "Miko feels intensely unsafe (often for provably good reason!!!) and has to just sit silently and deal with it" and it's just....kind of a bummer? It's weird, I get why people like it but it often just rubs me the wrong way.
Isn't that the entire premise of the manga, though?

It's the default setting, yes, which is a problem since as I said it's kind of just a repetitive downer that makes it harder to get to/through the genuinely interesting story beats.
See, I had the opposite experience with the manga—I enjoyed the base premise of "Mieruko ignores ghosts even as they do terrifying things," which I found hilarious, but wasn't interested in the overarching story. Her unsafety didn't make me feel bad because it's a totally unrealistic kind of unsafety: the threat (supernatural beings) doesn't exist in real life and isn't obviously allegorical to something that exists in real life.

I agree; the sexual angle, where present, is uncomfortable and doesn't add anything. But from what I remember—admittedly, I'm working off months-old memories of the manga—it generally isn't present at all. For every sexual harassment monster, there are three weird ghosts, an axe murderer, a spooky demon, and a Dark Souls boss. For me, the bad apples weren't enough to spoil the bunch.

i mean that isnt really a fair summary of sotsu even with its many many issues. its focused on rika and satokos relationship so theyre the only characters who get any real focus or catharsis. thats like, fair. [...]
I think the issue is that it isn't actually focused on that until about a dozen episodes in. For the first few arcs, Satoko and Rika figure about as much as they did in those arcs of the VN: Demon-Deceiving Chapter is about Keiichi and Rena, Cotton-Deceiving Chapter is about Keiichi and the twins, and Curse-Deceiving Chapter is about Keiichi and Satoko. Rika gets little intermissions, but not enough for her to feel like the focus; Satoko gets even less. So it is a problem that Keiichi and co. don't get any development, especially since between Rena's madness being reality instead of a hallucination and Mion getting Hinamizawa Syndrome despite being specifically called out as too strong-willed and trusting to fall victim to it, it feels like it's tearing the original work's cast and conclusions down, even if those moments are clues to a larger mystery. I agree it isn't fair to characterize Sotsugyou entirely by those episodes; once it commits to Rika and Satoko as leads, that problem goes away. But it takes a very long time to get there.

Eventually, yes. Twelve episodes in, Gou gets to its original content, which starts off a bit weak (lots of gore and misery porn) but gets stronger over time. Sotsu repeats Gou's sin by retreading (re-retreading?) Gou's arcs for all but the last two episodes of its run, but those final episodes are OK-to-good. Having seen it all, I wouldn't recommend forcing yourself through Sotsugyou if you weren't enjoying it—the good parts of the show could fit in a two-hour movie, and for a 39-episode anime that's the kiss of death

Over the last few months, people have been having the exact same conversations here they would be having in the vtuber thread: we've seen clip-sharing, news-sharing, and extended discussion, all on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis. I'm not sure what a dedicated thread would change aside from increasing the volume of discussion and moving it somewhere where it won't annoy people who aren't interested. Admittedly, the former would increase the moderation load, so I don't blame Julias for making the thread's existence contingent on someone being willing to IK it. But the current situation is annoying for everyone.
