If I am lucky, most of the worst effects wont happen till after I am dead. There is also absolutely nothing I can do about any of this and I am not directly responsible for decades of bad neglectful climate policy, so I can sleep easy at night. I dont have kids and am not planning to have any, so that is someone elses problem to be honest. And if you are having kids fully knowing whats around the corner, lol, lmao - I guess your children will truly know what its like to be owned. where do you draw the line for individual responsibility? what if you work for an oil company? obviously being a clerk or pump attendant has no degree of responsibility. how about a regional manager? a marketing executive at international headquarters? the children of executives who have benefited disproportionately from said system?

I'll have another!" every time you gulp down one dry chip. I don’t think anyone know enough about brains to do this beyond the basic ideas of salt sugar and fat, there’s no precision involved

don’t worry about brain imaging, that shits also not understood well enough and a ton of the research is bs. they make dead salmon brain light up too if you do the statistics wrong, and it can be a challenge to do the statistics right even if you want to due to limitations in tech and resources. if you look at journals of consumer psychology and market research etc they’re filled with stupid designs and garbage results. capitalist has a hard time doing science because the way everything is structured in neoliberalism and the academic/professional world rewards doing bad work and punishes good work.

for whatever reason, what greta says seems to have captured the imaginations of a few people I know and they’ve taken more of an interest in our collapse and considered what it is going to mean to them beyond the mild inconveniences they’ve experienced so far. the people I’m talking about would read the bad news as it appeared and were broadly aware of the issues already, so there’s something about the emotional force she’s able to project that makes the connections more visible to a lot of people. greta’s crack-pinging is happening faster than I expected and it’s good for the people who identified with her cause it gives them license to crack, too. it would have been more lucrative (and more probable) to take NGO money and say I loving Love Science, Cope! if that had happened I think some of these folks would have tuned out, but they did hear the “green new deal / build back better bla bla bla” and it’s like someone gave them permission to crack and move on to a newer stage where they picture in much greater detail what the future holds for them. many will probably conclude that they, personally, will be better off than everyone else and strive to maintain that. but some of these otherwise aggressively normal folks are picking up andreas malm or are more interested in understanding the responsibility of the corporations in all this, which is a little clearer for them to identify in our Post 2020 World. i think a lot of people just don’t process the media very well without having a subject to observe and project onto, which is probably not unusual at all in human cognition. most of the climate stuff in the media before was really boring poo poo and charts that make you feel personally bad about yourself over things you don’t have that much control over.
