Archive 81 isn't perfect but it feels very close to being great so far (5 episodes in). It does so much right that the clunkier moments feel a little more glaring but I still really like it.

I just hope this season is a one and done thing and it's not some sort of cliffhanger. I'm not familiar with the podcast and haven't really read anything on the show so I have no idea tbh.

Its not, but if they somehow get the budget to do some of season 2 podcast stuff, it'd very much be worth the wait. Although it seems to be going in a separate direction.

I always roll my eyes when I hear this. Adjusted for inflation, cable was priced twice as high as being subscribed to Netflix, Disney+ Bundle, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime at once, and the streaming services have no ads. Even DirectTV's most basic plan was more expensive than being subscribed to all major streaming services.

Also the reason streaming services suck right now is because of instead focusing on a certain demographic of people, they are always aiming to be for everybody. If streaming services were more like traditional tv channels and focused on a niche of content, they would be a lot better. Of course there has been some streaming services that were too focused like the stargate or DC comics streaming service. Shudder gets the balance right.

Tokyo Vice was good but not great. Some of the acting is really good (Watanabe, Sugata, Kasamatsu) but the main character is really boring and his the whole subplot with the escort girls is just not that interesting. The show is apparently based on real events so they had some constraints with the plot but it's just not a gripping crime drama in the style of Michal Mann. It's more about expats living in Tokyo that occasionally come into contact with criminals.

I really hope Severance doesn’t pull a Raised By Wolves in S2 and goes so hard that it loses the audience, leading to an early cancellation. Although it also feels like a show that will get worse and worse the longer it lasts.

The first season of Severance feels like a season cut in half, so I don't think we need to worry about that until season 3. (if there even is one).

That's true, but also moon knight is an incredibly low rung hero, even for the marvel television shows and Egypt stuff isn't really having a moment now like it was in *checks notes* the 1990s or 1920s.

Moon Knight's fundamental problem was that the show was dealing with too large of a scale of a problem. It absolutely should have not been about trying to save the world. I was incredibly bored by the two giant CGI gods duking it out. It also had an incredibly lazy ending where the plot was resolved by two Deus Ex Machinas in a row..

In Day Shift, the entire thing with the vampire girl doesn't make sense. She is barely a character for most of the movie and then Bud starts talking about how she betrayed him. I think the only reason she wasn't cut completely was because she was critical for the finale.

It'd be a terrible sci-fi movie. The main plot is in a holding pattern while the protagonist discovers herself, so it spends a bunch of time on subplots that don't end up really mattering that much. Its also pretty bloated. It'd really need its length cut down to be a good standalone sci-fi movie.

I honestly think its a problem with the character. Skylar is incredibly boring, and all she does is get in the way of Walter doing interesting things. There is very little more to her beyond that. Its not very surprising that people hate her, and I don't think it really shows anything about their character.

For anyone else that finished Hello Tomorrow!, was it at all jarring to anyone else that not only is a character's hand brutally disintegrated in a toaster, but they functionally send an entire cabin of people off to their deaths at the end? I thought the inciting incident in episode 1 of the truck backing into whatsherface was weirdly more violent than everything else, but it kinda jumped up in that area.

My bet is that there is something on the moon from Jack's dad's previous attempt. There are too many important characters on it for them all to die. Honestly, something isn't quite clicking for the show with me. I think I'm more intrigued by the idea of getting the lunar base to work than exploring the grift aspect of it when the show is the exact opposite. I also think the opening had a type of humor that is mostly lacking for the rest of the show except for very brief moments like the toaster that is capable of disintegrating a person's hand for some reason. It feels like it barely uses the setting, and it could be a period piece where Jack is trying to sell land on a hard to reach tropical island instead.

The thing I don't get is that apparently amusement parks are trying to move away from animatronics and going to fancy monitors. I can't imagine spending a bunch of money to wait in lines and watch things on a monitor.

HP lovekraft and Poe adaptation with Vincent Price?
Yes please

This one is funny. Its basically just an adaptation of The Strange Case of Charles Dexter Ward, but since Lovecraft was still extremely obscure at that point they call it an adaptation of an Edgar Allen Poe film. I think the only things that make it Edgar Allen Poe related was the title and a quote from the poem.

As far as I can find it's the first feature length adaptation of any Lovecraft story. Roger Corman was trying to take a break from making Poe adaptations with this movie but his prior Poe movies were very successful so the studio forced him to slap on some Poe stuff in the title and opening credits so they could try and leverage that in the advertising.

There was one Spanish movie before it called Mark of the Dead Man. Its also an adaptation of The Strange Case of Charles Dexter Ward.
