What is the likelihood of nearby countries offering air base support to Ukranian air craft? Seems hands-off enough for other countries to be doing. If you're already shipping weapons and supplies over your ground letting planes in your air space and on your air strips doesn't seem like an escalation.

Hi guys, civilian here, got a question about something and I hope this is OK to ask here.

There's this guy on C-SPAM posting up a bunch of documents about Russian logistics, but he's not explaining them much and I'm getting a slight headache trying to make sense of them. Can anyone break down what this is all saying in simple dummy terms, and what implications it might have, if any, for Russian forces in Ukraine? Also is any of this even relevant in wartime, given that I assume it's describing best-case "everything goes as planned" logistics?

Facts "on the ground" are going to be sparse and both sides will be slinging poo poo to support their cause. Russia hasn't taken their objectives and fighting is getting bogged down where they don't want it to be. Specifics about why this is are going to take time to be confirmed. Someone that is not a Russian military officer harping on about how great and perfect their logistics are and "really they get a hot shower every day!" is talking directly out of their rear end after swallowing and digesting the above propaganda.

For that specific one it looks like another vehicle abandoned in mud or by fleeing conscripts. Doesn't look like it got nailed by a weapons system. The REAL TRUTH is that Fauci had secret biolabs in Ukraine with Biden's blessing working on COVID 2.0 that are ethnically selective that Trump was trying to unmask but [insert favorite out group here] stopped him with their perfidious scheming and impeached him in the process so Russia had to defend themselves with a full scale invasion.

It's not just that, the entire premise of an American military career is that you have to seek promotion to leadership positions. This is true of both enlisted and commissioned ranks. It's not enough to find competency in a skill set as pursue that. In fact, it's detrimental to your career to do so. Not only that, but the services absolutely play favorites with what job backgrounds they choose to promote. I almost never had a first sergeant with a maintenance or even ordnance background, and never had a CSM that wasn't combat arms.

I did have more than a few who were philandering drunks that thought that turning wrenches had no real value in a fighting force.

Anyhow, I wasn't directly talking about the Peter principle, but the promotion system guaranteed to make it happen on a regular basis.

Removing the Army specialist track was a mistake and I'll die on this hill. Warrant officer has somewhat taken up the slack on that but ripping out the concept root and stem then grafting a poor replacement back on has damaged the cultural concept. Now instead of having actual skilled professionals everything is contracted out to sub-contracting contractors with sub-sub-contracted agencies and so on.
