Yeah I loved OW1 more than I cared to admit and this new format and the character redesigns somehow feel like they’ve taken something out of it? One tank makes the whole thing weirdly unbalanced (not on mechanics, but on feel).

OW1 felt like it was about pushing tanks forward while the team keeps the line and allows for pushing forward. OW2 feels like it’s about support/dps buzzing around the one tank like a swarm of bees, trying to deal as much damage as possible. Idk, it feels like it’s meant to be faster but really it just feels more chaotic.

Not exactly. The options sounded like they could take the game down for a day to scale up fast, or scale up slower while not impacting the servers and just keeping a reasonable queue in place. I'm not a big server architecture guy so I could not say if this explanation rings true.

If only they had completely taken down Overwatch for a full day where they could have scaled up fast. If only!!

Regardless of anyone’s opinion on the business model that Blizzard went with, this game will still make them an assload of money. People say f2p with cosmetics only is the proper way to do it and then bitch that they have to spend money to unlock cosmetics quickly like they aren’t going to be playing this for years???

This is true but OW1 actually gave you a lot of ways to get free loot boxes (leveling up, winning 3 arcade games, playing flex role sometimes) and now there’s *no* way to get cosmetics beyond grinding 60 gold per week. You can get a legendary skin after 8 months. The juxtaposition between the two systems just sucks.

I thought PvE was always supposed to be additional paid content, as in DLC. So you haven't paid for anything yet? People calling me a Blizzard dickrider just show that they feel entitled to the creative output of others. Touch grass.

The PvE was the *specific* justification for shutting down OW1. They explicitly said “We are taking away the game you spent $40 for but in exchange you will get this new mode and such for free.” Then it turns out to be a total bait-and-switch.

Yeah, they did. One of the maps has you defending a ferry while civilians evacuate, and then you go through the city and eventually pick up survivors to escort to the end. There are a ton of scripted events and the maps are surprisingly large and have a ton of added parts, not just repurposed Kings Row or Rialto.

Blizzard has burned a massive amount of goodwill and the maps do lack some replayability without the skill trees, but you can see the bones of a pretty expansive and decent single player game.

It's a small change but it does seem they're walking back some of the worst of the monetisation with the changes to the battlepass next season. if they dropped skin prices in general that would also help, but that seems unlikely if they're having issues with player retention.

No one wants to pay money for skins in a game where you don’t see your own skin about 99% of the time. Furthermore, every attempt by these poo poo sticks to get money out of (anyone) after they literally took away a game I payed money for is laughable.

I think the “new” info there is the game isn’t secretly making a boatload of money. It’s legitimately way behind World of Warcraft. It’s outright struggling and could go into maintenance mode at any point.
