Big fan of peaty whiskies, most of them already mentioned (Lagavulin 16 being my favourite) but will also put in a good word for Oban 14, lightly peated but otherwise pretty smooth and rich and a bit of a salty tang from being a coastal distillery.

I see that Rishi! wants all students to study Maths until they're 18.
Yet another stone-cold classic policy from the Tories.

The amount of jobs which requires maths higher than what you learn at GCSE is minuscule, and are all staffed by the people who actually enjoy maths enough to continue studying it. I have a degree in maths with first class honours, while I don’t really use maths much in my job I do use some basic stuff like trig for figuring out angles for hobbyist woodworking, so probably more than 98% of the population, and still none of it is more complex than GCSE level stuff.

What a pointless waste of time this is. What they need to do is revise the maths curriculum at lower levels so that it doesn’t result in almost everyone utterly HATING maths by the time they graduate.

Thats going to interesting to define.

I like how they rebranded from Hermes because everyone thought Hermes was utter poo poo, and then somehow perform even worse under the new name.

Measuring delivery metrics isn't hard and is perfectly useful for seeing if your employees are actually doing their job, it's just that the expected number of deliveries is way too tight. Getting rid of those metrics won't make anyone's jobs easier, they just need to employ more drivers.

It’s the way of business these days, ruthless drive towards efficiency that ends up dismantling all resilience against anything outside of perfect conditions. Fun and timely example - look how Twitter had essentially ‘overbuilt’ their service to almost eliminate outages, then some new idiot takes over and sees all the ‘efficiency savings’ to be made by firing staff and taking data centres offline, and now the bugginess of the platform increases day-by-day.

I mean tbf that video is clearly heavily edited. I don't have the faintest iota of a doubt that Braverman still comes across appallingly in the full one, but as long as it's an edit then it's easy to dispute that it is a fair reflection of what happened.

The full video has been posted in response and doesn’t really change the context any

Huskies do have attitudes and will sometimes have a go at dominance. My malamute had a lovely character and was very well behaved, but very occasionally just decided he was in charge. I did have to pin him when that happened, until he calmed down. It's not easy by any means, but they don't get hurt (aside from their egos).

I heard that supposedly sled dogs are bred to be less obedient and more independent than other breeds because if you're sledding through the wilderness you want a dog that's going to refuse an order to head into a danger which they've spotted but you haven't. No idea how true that is but it'd explain a lot about why Huskies are like they are.

The absolute worst are people whose dogs think it's ok to jump up at you when you're out on a walk. Ruined a brand new coat once cos someone's dog just playfully jumped up and covered me in muddy paw prints. Never before have I been so close to breaking my British decorum and telling their meekly apologising owner that yes they should be loving sorry, and they can pay for my dry cleaning as well.

Of course, actually I just smiled awkwardly and said it was fine, then spent the rest of my walk fuming.

If a bit of mud ruins your coat, you probably shouldn’t wear it for a walk in the woods.

Student Loan talk.

Ok, I got a mail a few days ago, saying I overpaid my student loan and they want me to contact them.
My student loans from 20 years ago.

Anyone heard of this ever happening? Or is it some new phishing new thing.
Nothing is in the mail, they are the same company (Thesis) but no details, no amounts or such.

I’m actually due to finish paying off my student loan shortly, they sent me a letter saying that I should switch to paying by direct debit (rather than having it taken from my paycheque) because apparently it can take a while for them to realise it’s paid off and I can end up overpaying this way. Stupid system but apparently it does happen, contact SLC directly and check with them.
