Fluffdaddy,, here is the sequence of events as I understand it. I wasn't involved but I'm familiar enough with RP and I was in a discord with Bees at the time and remember them mentioning it offhand a few times.

1. Podima recruits for a game on the forums.
2. The game contains the Girlfriend Robots.
3. The person assigned the girlfriend sex robots character does not like the character, but is told to 'trust' the people running the game.
4. Bees, Renessia, Meinberg (and possibly others?) make a group chat to discuss the game. At least one of Bees and Renessia (possibly both?) is not aware of the girlfriend sex robots due to the game's format and is creeped out by them when they learn of them.
5. They go through conversations they've had with the people running the game and try and corroborate other issues they've had. Someone with access to every channel in the discord is also creeped out and posts some creepy stuff that's gone on in the DMs between the people running the game and other players.
6. They try and discuss this with Podima and get this response.

Even the person defending Podima acknowledges both

1) There was sex stuff happening in the game that some players did not know about and were not warned about. (Which, even if their characters weren't directly involved, is still weird and uncomfortable)

and 2)

At least one weird sex scene happened in the Riven: THE SEQUEL TO MYST game that Podima was involved in (and other players presumably also did not know about/were not warned about.)

I really don't know how you could interpret this as anything less but cause for permabanning. He recruited people from the forums into an uncomfortable sexual situation without warning them beforehand, and then when they tried to express their concerns he tried to pressure and coerce them into it and paint himself as the victim.

Like, even if you don't go and read it, it still happened in a game you are participating in. That would make most people uncomfortable!

Not do I know why the discord made the decision across the boards that no one outside of the group was to be informed of their problems. The only person from the FabGoon discord group who approached me at all, called it disturbing and described it as a cult of personality around one person and his friends. So all I had to work with was an angry mob demanding I take on-forum action for off-forum problems, with no proof and no history of complaints about said off-forum problems.

Could I have handled it better? Yes, absolutely, but not by just doing whatever was demanded by the mob. At the very least, that would've been a long consultation with the admins and mods while the thread stayed locked down. It's not about discrimination or whatever, it's simply that off-forum means off-forum, and moderating some for off-forum behavior is a very tricky and unpleasant thing that sits on top of a very slippery slope. A lack of evidence, including a lack of people making complaints about the behavior, makes me hesitate that much more. And there has always been the option to complain anonymously through email, or to another mod/admin.

I'm aware of two E/N discord groups right now, but for all I know there are a dozen. I've chosen to stay out of all of them, as has the IK. You guys have the right and privilege and freedom to associate off-forum any old way you like, with the understanding that it's not an official part of the Something Awful platform and this not subject to the same rules, visibility, and moderation as Something Awful itself. If you want to tie one of them to the other for the purpose of moderating someone's off-forum offenses, then by all means do so, but you have to work with the mods to do so. A digital lynch mob is not the way to do it. In case you've forgotten, a lynch mob demanding punishment for someone without proof of the accusations, is a bad thing.

As for it being the FabGoons, that is an unfortunate coincidence. I don't discriminate against people of any sexuality or gender, and I'm not going to be continually accused of it. Had it been one of the other E/N groups, it would've been the same. I can't do anything about a group of people choosing to insulate themselves or maintain a code of silence with outsiders or however things with that discord got to that point. There was only one voice of dissent, and they were unwilling to talk about the group dynamics of the discord in front of any other members. All told, that's not a good look.

Now that both sides have had their say, we will return to the OP and the original intent of this thread.

These are all directly discussing a mod decision, and instead they were all probated for petty reasons. There is nothing in this that really suggests that this moderation actually fixes anything other than piss people off, or any acknowledgment that some of the poo poo going on offsite might actually be seriously heavy (to the point where people actively flout the rules because of it), just a blind repetition about how rules are rules. Considering Bobbie Wickham is also the mod who jumped into a completely unrelated thread to demand a poster return to his E/N thread to entertain the masses, I dont think shes fit to be a mod of that or any forum.

conducted an extended torture scene of a player done incredibly fetishistically, without the consent or knowledge of other players present in the game, and created a running joke in the community to make fun of people who were uncomfortable

has repeatedly refused to ban sexual assault and rape from games, but also refused to warn for such content, because in his eyes writers should be able to include content without limits. in doing so, he completely ignores the safety and comfort of players

this kind of person shouldn't be responsible for moderating the content of a forum game, much less the content of a forum.
