To be fair, CCP has been trying to make logistics as much of a pita as possible pretty much since day 1. The only reason they actually introduced freighters at all is because the playerbase told them there was no way anyone was gonna try to build endgame stuff (outposts, supercaps) in any significant quantity otherwise.

e: and CCP really wanted people to build endgame stuff circa 2006 because there was such a glut of raw material on the market that the economy was very close to collapsing entirely.

Yes, like I said, circa 2006. I think freighters may have been late 05, it was the big patch before the one that brought outposts and dreads.

ascn used to do freighter escorts from the rear end end they used to live in. they would run 6-20 freighters and anyone who helped escort got a payout at the end.

i accidentally joined one once when i was pulling what i had out of there in my domi and got paid 50mil to get my spy out. :D

lol yuppp, and then that program got shitcanned because the russians started setting up login traps halfway along the route ten plus jumps from anything and be long gone by the time anyone could put a blob together.

Turns out that advertising a weekly pinata party days in advance tends to attract party crashers, who knew

and yes the escorts were completely ineffective against anything except small gate camps because there was no combat doctrine or ship reimbursement and the money wasn't good enough to compensate for sitting in a fleet with a bunch of mouthbreathers for three hours

Couldn't a carrier with a SMA full of cargo expanded iteron V's get pretty drat close to a JF's capacity before they restricted what could be in cargoholds for ships in the SMA?

Yes but for most applications mineral compression was more effective by that point, particularly once outposts became prevalent enough that factory slot availability wasn't the primary bottleneck for nullsec prodution anymore.

I googled a random article about the papi war because I wasn't paying attention to Eve that year and I was shocked to see Gobbins was named as the leader of PH.

Please tell me Gobbins is loving Admiral Goberius, and not a different Gobbins. Please.

Eh....it's crashed several times in its history, but it's way too dynamic to really burn down. ISK velocity is quickened and slowed by wars, by isk sinks, by isk faucets getting adjusted by the devs, etc.

There are nullblocs that try to make it extremely painful to dick around others inside the group, too. If you are discovered wrecking things for your 'in-group,' you may find yourself on a naughty list that hurts real bad. Given that you're in a nullbloc, which makes it extremely hard to interact with the public outside of your bloc, it serves as a sort of anarchistic self-policing weight.

Regardless, there's examples today where you have certain ammo types being underproduced due to the folks holding the majority of the production logging off and staying off (or just saying "i don't want to produce things that gameplay is lame,"), and certain markets for those ammo types being underserved and prices skyrocketing. You would think the market would correct, given there are alternative production chains to make that specific ammo that don't rely on these production whales, but the inputs to those chains are depressed and people are not feeding them enough to make it worthwhile, so the market suffers for that item.

The economy doesn't depend on that specific item, so the economy is moving along just fine. You can expect to pay a premium on that item, though, which means market activity is very much a pvp activity that costs players losses. lmao

this is a lot of words explaining why this trash game made it two loving decades
