Long time graphic designer here and can confirm that customers don't proofread poo poo. WE'd send proofs out all the time typeset exactly how they sent it in (usually with spell check run on stuff as part of the process) and then have to eat poo poo and get bitched out because of a typo. Hell, sometimes it wasn't even a typo. It was just some person who CLEARLY wanted their cell number to say "C: 904-123-4567" and NOT "CELL: 904-123-4567", even though they typed it that way.

Business cards, for whatever reason, were always the absolute WORST.

You'd think it'd be simple, right? Your logo, name, job title, address, website and contact information in a 3.5 x 2 inch space but my loving god were they ever an absolute pain in the rear end and typically had more edits than a 48 page instruction manual.

We made no money on them and they were always a loss leader but any time we had a reprint it was always on us, even when we gave them templates and forms to write down or enter EXACTLY what they wanted on it.

Also, obligatory:

I remember one time facing a 7 hour drive late at night and bought a pack of trucker speed. Yellowjackets or something. I took one, waited a half hour, was still tired, so I took another one and...holy poo poo. Even by the time I got home at like 5am, I was unable to sleep and felt disgusting. November 1st was the first day of open enrollment through healthcare.gov.

But this us true. Since my life sucks and likely I do too, I greet to start working the password reset job for healthcare.gov again. I also need to pick a plan for next year. Can’t wait to see how much worse the government has allowed the insurance offerings to get this year compared to last year.

Last year, I noticed that every plan had increased by at least $200 a month while covering far less, increasing the original out-of-pocket limit allowed to be permitted to list plans on healthcare.com, and increasing the deductible limit. For people who aren’t in the US, the insurance industry considers deductible and out-of-pocket costs as two different things.

Not just arguably worse. Actually worse. gently caress the insurance industry.

I can’t find any videos of anything unfortunate happening to insurance company execs right now. :( :retrogames:

Here’s an article about a UnitedHealthcare CEO stating his specification for the Biden administration not cracking down off insurance companies overcharging for Medicare Advantage plans, which are funded by the government but administered by private insurance companies. Centene also handles quite a few MedicareAdvantage/AllWell plans for our country’s elderly and medically fragile.

I just got "let go", I guess, by my PCP because it seems I don't come in often enough, even if there's nothing wrong with me and I feel fine.

Motherfuckers, I don't go to the doctor unless I have to, in large part because of the costs Bored posted about. Seems like they just go "hmmm, BiggerBoat hasn't been in to see us in over 18 months. Better have him come in so we can bill something." Even though I have out of pocket costs, would likely have to miss work time and have no symptoms of any sort worthy of requiring a doctor visit, the fact that I haven't needed to see a physician in 2 years makes me an undesirable patient.

I worked with a guy once who had a heart condition who made it clear to every co-worker that under no circumstances should an ambulance ever be called for him - due to the exorbitant expense - and that we should contact his family or get someone there to drive him. Insane.

As a soon-to-be doc, you can always let your physician know of your situation, such as the cost (money or time) having you come in less. They'll put in a thing to keep you on the roster - most docs have limited enrollment slots so if nothing is said the office has measures in place to unassign patients who aren't seen in x years to make room for new patients.

If you talked to your doc and they said "too bad" you needed a new doc anyway.

If you haven't talked to your doc, call or email the office and they'll likely reassign you again, even if they're at capacity.

I wasn't all that enamored with my PCP in the first place and have considered finding a new one for a while so maybe it's time. And I haven't truly needed to see a doctor in a couple of years, so that's...good, right?

I just resent the entire come on of the whole thing. "Hey, Boat, last time you were here we ordered a battery of tests, all done at different facilities at different times in various locations and with additional costs approaching $1000 that found nothing really wrong with you regarding your weight loss, but we haven't billed you in a while and we need the money so unless you come in for no reason and skip work to do it then gently caress you because we have bills to pay".

It's like when my mechanic notices I haven't had to spend money on my car in a year and sends out a "hey, can you come spend some more money here?" email/text. Maybe my car is running OK for now and gently caress off with soliciting basic needs like transportation and healthcare? I'm honestly surprised more cyclists don't get hurt where I live in a relatively small beach town because I see drivers all the time drifting into bike lanes while on their phones and, for whatever reason, bike riders also tend to cheat towards the outside street side of their lane; so much so that I can only assume that's a bike safety guideline but I dunno. I don't notice a ton of bicyclists being assholes, tbh, but between the old people who can't stay in a straight lane anyway, even though they're trying, and the aforementioned texters routinely slow sliding into cyclist's lanes, it's a real wonder how more people don't get hit.

Put the motherfucking phone down already. Doing that poo poo legit makes motorists drive like they're drunk.
