His Luffy is just so sincere, straightforward, and earnest while also sanding down some of the harsh edges of Oda's early characterization in the series; like, I thought Luffy in the early manga was a typical shonen protag idiot, but the way he plays it in the show, it comes off as being more neuroatypical. His Luffy still isn't the brightest guy and lacks tact and some social skills... but he's not an idiot, and I really appreciate that

Rising is a gigantic improvement over the original (it's so good I put it in my top ten list for 2023); they added a bunch of new mechanics, threw in all the DLC characters from GBFV, improved the lighting so the game's even better looking now, 2B's going to be a guest character, and there's a free version available with Gran and a rotating selection of characters available to play every week.

I haven't put as much time into it as I'd like, but maybe Manoueverable can add their two cents on it. I say at least try the free version and mess around with it. It's a ton of fun.

Do you folks love or hate when video games have long cutscenes?

I love those 4 hour long nonsensical Kojima cutscene.

It depends on the quality and what the cutscenes are about. Last long cutscene I sat through was in Genshin Impact, where my reactions generally bounce between "oh my god shut UP Paimon" to "you fucks, I'm crying, gently caress you," and this last one was definitely a hard hitting one that I loved. But there have been others where I'm just trying to restrain the urge to skip through most of it.

I think generally, if the cutscene's being wordy for the sake of being wordy, I'm very uninterested, but if it's payoff for an entire arc or hitting some emotional beats, I can watch that all day

That's the one I'm talking about, it's just weird calling it 'The Batman'. I appreciated that they actually made the effort of showing Batman doing detective poo poo. The Nolan movies more felt like he was just making action movies that happened to have Batman in them, Reeves feels like he understands the nature of those characters better while still finding a way to translate them into a more realistic setting.

Cosmonaut Variety Hour recently did a two video series on all the Batman movies on his Youtube channel, and something he pointed out about the Nolan movies that I very much agree with is that starting with TDK is that Nolan really seems to have resented the fact that he was making superhero movies (and even if that wasn't true for TDK, it was for Rises)

I don't recommend it personally. This is clearly a show written for three seasons that got two extra seasons and you can tell the writers had to pull a story out of their asses.

I got a PS5 this week as a gift, so I've been playing Steelrising, which is a Soulsborne set in Revolutionary France (it's "we have Lies of P at home," the Game), and it does a mix of British English with French phrases thrown in randomly (with translations right next to the phrase in the subtitles). It absolutely irks me, since the conceit is that they're speaking French to begin with.
