I apologised. Host was real pissed, but I don't have much sympathy considering they'd been dropping Eagles on me all mission
This is probably the only game I've ever played where I get teamkilled consistently and laugh at it. My favourite is always when someone's dropping a much needed airstrike only to have it knocked out of their hand from a charger or something and doom the entire squad.

Nearly lost all our reinforcements on a simple mission we should have had in the bag, but I kept dropping mines everywhere and my mate kept stumbling into them every time.

This is the first game in years the whole crew has actually purchased and played together. I feel like I'm fuckin' around in high school again. I've been a slob.

I love mortars. They have obscene ammo compared to the other sentries and they are generally a lot stronger due to the fact you can place them way further back.
I will however not take them on bug missions. Excluding EMS of course, which seems elite against bugs.

Also +1 the idea of fighting multiple factions on the same map. That sounds like it would be cool.

I'm seriously tempted to start team killing pubbie mortar turrets. Seeing someone put one down when we have chargers coming in is just a recipe for a dozen dead Helldivers.
Feel free. This is a legit option. I've killed my own and other mortars to keep us alive. I placed it once we were up to the stage of rescuing civilians and I realised it was just stalling us and costing requisition (and also murdered 2 teammates).

It just sucks you get like 4+ chargers at a time when poo poo gets serious. I can absolutely accept their armour being strong but they clearly should be taking more damage when getting shot in the rear end. I'd like to see that changed (fixed?).

Bile titans are less dangerous.

Yeah I'm mostly doing 7-Suicide right now and it's fairly consistent while still difficult.

Anytime I try to relax and drop it down though are those missions where I am fighting for my absolute life and all my strats are on a constant cooldown.
Making it to the dropship, much less even completing the mission is a bonus.

I think it needs like an AI director that can read the room and ease up on the drops when it sees me getting pummelled.
The mission is fine at the start but once your stratagems hit cooldown or you lose a couple players and have to respawn them you immediately lose your momentum.

I'll die and suddenly there are 50 tanks driving around with 100 more on the way.

I get a lot of pubbies that have no idea what they're doing which I don't blame because I only started like 3 days ago but for the most part if I tell them to disengage they'll usually follow me.

Also try disabling other mic inputs. My amp technically as an input as well that I haven't got anything plugged into and disabling that + setting my mic as default input seemed to fix it.

This game acts real strange with microphones.

After the last 2 days I'm really liking the lightning gun. It's unlimited ammo so you can basically run it like a primary. As long as you are conscious of your fields of fire it seems like it can do good work. Run it with the Rover and be an ammo free destroyer of yard trash. As long as a couple others bring any heavy armor it works great, and others basically always bring that. I run 110s and 500kg to help with the armor.

An advantage of the load out is that since you don't rely on your primary you can bring more ammo problematic primaries like a Slugger or Scorch without it being an issue.

Its fun!
Just played a round where a guy used this with jump jet and chilled on the top of rocks zapping things left and right. Killed me a couple times over a campaign but realistically it was about average for team deaths. Seemed to kick rear end.

Just doing suicide 7 which is usually pretty chill but he single handily used all our reinforcements, bombed the entire squad once the dropship had landed and jumped on without any of our samples.

They should play more like a bad drop than a shooting gallery.

First time I ever played this map and mission the host dropped us at the edge of the map outside the fortress and we had all the bots dropping either side of us and up top so we could never get out of our hole and into a defensible position.

deep dish peat moss posted:

If anything I feel like this game is easier (against bugs) now because frankly the Railgun was already bad and slower at killing things than other options, and now people are feeling forced to use the actually-good guns instead of focusing their entire strategy around being able to blow off charger feet like an early 2000s youtube frag vid.

Like, the grenade launcher was already faster at killing Chargers than the railgun before today, with the side benefit of actually being good against everything else too. And now that difference is even more pronounced.

Basically I feel like everyone using the Railgun was making the game way loving harder for themselves all along, you can tell because they were the only people who thought the game was particularly hard. Chargers are and always have been a complete non-threat that are only scary in the middle of a big swarm of small bugs, which the railgun has no way to deal with, which made Chargers appear more threatening than they are to railgun users, which reinforced their idea that they needed a Railgun to deal with Chargers. But if you're dealing with all the real threats (a.k.a. artillery bugs and swarms of grasshoppers) well, you can just (very easily) sidestep them like a charging bull and send a couple grenades up their rear end and they just die instantly.

Nah the railgun was elite. Being able to one shot bile titans on a charged shot was pretty insane, especially with its quick reload and 20rounds. It's still good but it's not as ridiculous as it was.

I love the grenade launcher but I feel it's not as great at chargers as you're making it out. Yeah it slaps but I find my teammates end my life well before they end what they were targeting, and chargers bump this up significantly because they love to chase me down.
You raise a good point and it's definitely the loadout of the entire team. The artillery bugs I've found a total non-threat because my teammate loves the autocannon. It shuts them down almost immediately.

EDIT:

BitBasher posted:

The reaction to this on Reddit are blowing me away, it's like an apocalypse.

I believe it's this. Without fail so far every complaint I have seen is all "When I get attacked by 4 chargers" and never, ever mention their teammates and their strategems at all. Like they expect that every single thing that encounter need to be handled alone without teammates and with their primary and maybe sometimes their call in weapon only. I find it bizarre.
.
There's also been a really large number of people thinking demanding that charger legs be reduced to be destroyed by medium armor penetration, which I feel would completely defeat the point of the charger even existing.
When it's 4+ chargers it's a lot harder to roll the AT. Most the AT weaponry and stratagems for this requires a fair bit of breathing room which the charger counters by its nature. EAT is useful but there's just frankly not enough supply to deal with a fight like that constantly, and for diff 8 and above this will be the sort of poo poo show you get on a main objective you're hesitant to retreat from.

It's doable and yeah my team win operations on diff 8 (haven't tried 9 yet) but compared to bot missions the fight is a lot less fun and way more of a slog.

I think I sold someone on it because I called down a second to resupply myself and someone else picked up my original kit and went on with it.

Hecking hectic extraction with a meteor shower coming down right in our landing. Also, gee thanks Super Destroyer. I really wanted that orbital railcannon shot to reduce a hive commander to grease and not the charger.
I just had the same one and started a bug kill mission just to ease into a game since they're usually chill. 2 titans were the first bugs to pop out of the ground before I'd even gotten my support weapon up. That was intense!

We survive until Pelican 1 shows up only to find out none of us can get in. Pelican 1 won't let us sit down. We get wiped and the mission ends on a 2 star with no samples.

If this game wasn't so fun I'd be more annoyed.

This game is amazing when it works but there's an incredible amount of game ending bugs that really sour the taste. And somehow they introduce more with each patch like the current one of, "if you use any of the electric weapons you WILL regret it."

I've run a few rounds with the Scorcher/Quasar combo just out of coincidence and I really like it as well. The quasar is a great feeling gun.

I'm sure with coordination there are better options but the gun has some serious flaws and benefits that really make it feel fun to use.
With good practice you can absolutely delete and suppress incoming dropships to make fights a little easier right from the start.
Taking out tanks/turrets that are live is also fun if you try to charge from behind cover to swing out and snap shot them.

If however you get caught with your pants down there is no chance you're getting a full charge off to help out.

I haven't had this one come up for me in ages I guess because I haven't been around for a bot defensive operation but yeah it's the hardest mission I think. As soon as you die and lose your momentum, or you hit all your cooldowns on strats you get absolutely swamped.
