Why would an ambulance be leaving the hospital?

Bobby Deluxe posted:

Right. Google's not giving me anything useful, and you lot know things so I'm asking here.

What's different between the generic Salamol inhalers and the older Salbutamol inhalers?

I ask because most of my adult life I've had a blue ventolin/salbutamol inhaler. Never had any issues with it. Worked great.

However in recent years, they've been giving me these lovely little salamol generics that crap out after a few activations, and something in their composition gives me palpitations and makes me feel extremely jittery after using them (I have a similar problem with caffeine and a bunch of other medications).

I can't find anything specifying the difference apart from an asthma forum claiming (unsourced) that the generics use ethanol? Apparently if the prescription specifically says ventolin you can get the older style so I might try that, but it does mean running the gauntlet of trying to get through to the GP surgery.

No differences in particular that I've ever heard of. If you're feeling a difference though you *must* speak to your GP and get them to write your prescription as branded Ventolin. Do not let them write it generically and then add 'ventolin brand please' in the notes afterwards. That does not count.

If you have a good relationship with your pharmacy you can get away with asking them to swap it *before* you leave with it, but that won't always work and is highly dependent on the exact person you speak to and whether or not they have Ventolins kicking about. I'll do it if people ask but it's a lot, lot, lot easier if the prescription is branded.
Good luck:)

Ventolin is pretty cheap and not really different in cost to any generic, they can do the same with Salamol which is about three times the cost but I guess compared to some stuff pretty cheap so they should be fine with it

I thought Salamol was the problem brand:) either way get it specific

We had a priest for a while who would sing the Mass any chance he got. It was gorgeous but it made it take about 90 minutes and you'd hear all the old fellas sighing impatiently the moment he started.

I had to kick him out of our house at 2am one time because he was drunkenly playing the organ and having a singalong. Go home Mark I have work tomorrow

My first thought reading that article is just how much many modern careers involve just straight up bullshitting about your abilities and competence. Modesty is decidedly not a useful quality.

Beyond that yeah, most kids who were little shits grow into normal-ish adults, forgetting what it was like to be a scholar terror even if the thing they did to the other kids remains with that kid for life. Thats one of the funny things about doing evil poo poo, as much as people like to think it leads to dramatic consequences most of the time it's very much a 'for me it was just Tuesday' thing.

There's a decent thriller called 'The Gift' where a guy who was clearly a vicious bully as a child, and has remained kind of a controlling dickhead in adult life, discovers the limits of that kind of behaviour. Jason Bateman playing a bit against type, showing if you push natural charm a bit too far it becomes superficial and unsettling. I liked it quite a lot though I'm not a huge fan of the ending.

One time I was having fish and chips on Brighton pier with a mate, and this seagull was sitting on a fencepost nearby watching us. At one point another gull came along and the first gull flew away, letting the other one take its place for about ten minutes. Then gull 1 returned (it had a distinctive little mark on its neck) and gull 2 flew off to let it resume its post. Loo break I suppose.

We still deal with handwritten prescriptions all the time. There's a doctor at the local CAMHS service who has godawful handwriting such that I can't tell 2s from 3s reliably and have to call them about once a month. Just write in loving block capitals, my handwriting sucks and that's what I do if I need people to read it, God

Plus ça change

Here's a really inside-baseball pet peeve of mine. One of the doctors here, when writing dosage for liquid morphine, will write '2.5-5ml to be given up to every four hours'

Now, I know they mean 'no more often than every four hours' but that isn't what they wrote! They wrote something that implies four hours is the *longest* you should go between doses! Ugh.

And there's one who uses 'dinner' when standard procedure is 'the evening meal' because some people call lunch 'dinner'.

Thank you for reading! Couple of other things:

One of the Unison motions involved trying to get all NHS Trusts to implement disability/accessibility passports - i.e. a persistent record of an employee's needs so they don't need to keep explaining everything again should they get a new team/manager. To me this seems like a decent idea in theory - anyone here had any experience with it? I'd definitely like to bring it to my Trust but have little hope they'd implement it well or in good time.

My only concern here would be if it makes it harder to get accommodations *without* such a passport. My ADHD and visual impairment are on paper but my autism is self-diagnosed at the moment because of the long waiting lists, but I currently still feel able to request help at my workplace. In theory though I think it's a decent idea! Would love it if they'd make diagnosis easier though.

A good point! Hopefully it's possible to make provisions for symptoms that aren't officially diagnosed.

I've just been sent the forms for my assessment after 3 years of waiting - i spoke to a lass in Brighton today who said she'd been on a waiting list for 5. I hope your time comes soon!

Thanks bud :) I'm fairly comfortable with the self-diagnosis since I have access to disability accommodations through my other issues. It's a lot more pressing for other people. Such as my little second cousin, who's been waiting months and months at a crucial age. Grr.

Jesus Christ I recommended ignore because people were vocally distressed at having to read his continual posting, as a stopgap measure. I also put in a report last night where I asked the D&D mods to do something about the situation and I *also* argued with 99 in the thread and shouted down his poo poo to the best of my ability. Reacting to me as if I just came in and went 'ignore the bully and he will go away' and then swanned off is kind of upsetting tbh.

As others pointed out I don't have mod powers in this subforum and I don't have a history of going 'just ignore them lol' when it comes to this sort of thing.

Mum's knee replacement cancelled, no theatre staff available. This is after months of waiting because she was just left off some kind of list by accident. I'm sick of holding her while she cries and reassuring her that the NHS *does* care about her and they *will* come through.
