I'm interested in doing the magick archer class, but until I unlock that, should I start as a mage, sorcerer, or archer? Is there even a difference?

I had to rely on my magician pawn to kill all the slimes in the cave for me since he's the only one with elemental magic. Took a while since I had to kite everything, but he cleared that whole thing.

Most of my pawns seem to die from being unable to do proper jumps and will just fall into the brine and die.

Vermain posted:the biggest plus in DD2's favor as an open world experience is that it engenders a real sense of "am i going too far into the wilderness" that very few other games manage to hit I had a very similar experience of this just making my way to the drat capital. I took a wrong turn and ended up on the East, desperately trying to find some kind of inn because it had been days and my pawns kept falling to their deaths stupidly, so my main pawn was gone along with my loving camping pack and it was getting dark. I had to die repeatedly to find a stone to get him back before I could even try to camp out as my max health had gone to 1/4th.

I wish my pawn with levitate would actually loving use it instead of falling into the brine. I started archer, switched to mage just to do levitate because I thought I could sequence-break by reaching a rope ladder only to find it's a locked door anyway. (ice attack leaving a scalable ledge + levitate got me up there btw) I'd love to use it to do more exploring as other classes without having to switch to mage if I want to try and get around. Do some of the larger monster encounters respawn? I kept getting cyclops quest pawns but never when I actually encounter them! Also as an archer, I find kicking a lot of things to death quite effective so far. So many wolves just kicked in the fuckin' face.

I had no problem because I always wore the full set and only talked to prisoners inside their cells when i thought people weren't nearby, and it was easy to get the guy down by breaking the back wall of one of the cells nearby rather than going out the front door or other routes. To get the guy to move on his own, you need to trigger a different quest in the slums about a kid who went exploring in a collapsed tower in town.

It's a more satisfying experience than Skyrim is on a basic wandering around and feeling actual consequences for things. Day and night are more than just a visibility difference, and you have to actually consider what you're carrying around for the most part so the sense of distance and time is actually more acutely felt.

I've gotten quite a few ferrystones just from wandering around and only finally used one recently, as such I only carry one at a time since the destination most likely has an inn or my house anyway. I finished up archer and now want to finish mage for that stamina augment, so it's been quite a bit of a playstyle adjustment since I am not controlling the battle nearly as much. I did thief just enough to get that aggro-resistance augment, so that's been a great boon to these vocations.

I gave the girl all the drat tomes, and have gone days, weeks of time since, and she's still just studying away and not progressing the quest. Wasted some time with mystic spear, absolutely garbage output compared to my Archer and even Mage runs. Neeksy fucked around with this message at 02:53 on Mar 31, 2024 |

Ended up dicking around instead of going inside the main house in the nameless village and it turns out my natural instinct to scope out things -besides- the main roads at all times paid me huge dividends. Also knowing how to figure out the platforming.

So I've snagged two portcrystals so far: one you get from finishing the elven archery questline, another can be found in a griffin's nest near the periphery of the misty area with the dullahan. It really makes the quest to help their tree actually tolerable.

I now feel nothing when a pawn says something that sounds like the start of either insubordination or declaring that they feel a power inside them and I thus huck them into the nearest brine I can find, particularly if it's near a stone where I can either resummon my own guy or get a new one.

I don't want to compare this game to Elden Ring because it really isn't trying for the same thing despite both being called Open World Games, whether it's how it treats player death, a party mechanic being the baseline standard expectation for approaching combat, or the presence of non-essential NPCs and towns with non-hostile people in them. Skyrim is the closest example to compare it to.

But pretty much every ambush seems to happen at about the halfway point. I've been using the ambushes to get to the next destination quicker pretty effectively. I don't know if this was by design or a happy accident. Yeah sometimes I've used oxcarts as ways to travel quickly to parts inbetween by just banking on an ambush most likely happening. Sometimes, though, they'll happen as soon as almost immediately after leaving a place, or sometimes right before the destination. Day/Night hasn't mattered for ambushes, they've occurred at equal frequency for me.

Section Z posted:I am a freak using tar arrow instead of explosive (Look, look. They last longer, can be crafted from freebie lamp oil, and knockdown buffs are great with non-dwarf weapons) and the big difference has been getting drill arrow, and work in progress "Trying to work out when pierce shot is good/trash compared to shooting faces with drill shot". My experience with archer is using the incredible zoom shot at full draw to snipe opponents from afar right in their faces, and if it's a bigger opponent, I tar arrow, then explosive arrow so the monster fully catches the hell on fire almost immediately. This works wonders on griffins because they can't fly while ablaze. The fourth skill was usually the one that let me do rapid-fire because that will do a surprising amount of damage and you can target multiple enemies. Oh and kicking a lot of wolves to death. My memory of the review was that he viewed the microtransactions as an afterthought pushed on by the publisher so the devs just tossed them the basic stuff, which is honestly pretty accurate? It didn't take up that much of the review, even. The rest of the review was fine, even if I'm enjoying the game more than him.

My pawn very suddenly went "WE DON'T NEED TACTICS! VICTORY IS ASSURED" and his eyes were now orange, and with no nearby brine, I found the nearest functioning stone near a cliff, threw him off, and watched him plummet to his death. I waited for the counter to fully kill him before touching the stone to restore him. I needed to make sure he was fully dead.
