I was riding the oxcart and got ambushed by a cyclops. Well during the fight the oxcart got turned over, but managed to not get destroyed. This distinguishes it from a previous incident where I was playing warrior and charging my big upward slash move, and the oxcart ran into me and promptly exploded into a million pieces when I release the charge. I figured I was probably screwed, but I walked over and there was a button to "Aid Oxcart", which set it right and re-attached the ox. Cool! Except the cart won't move because we're in a narrow canyon and there's a giant corpse directly in front of it, and apparently I can't doze off to skip past that.

Enjoying the game but I wish there was some more enemy variety.

I get annoyed when I get pawns that don't have any enchantments on their gear, like what are you even doing with all that gold and upgrade materials if not at least throwing a few upgrades on everything. Those robes you found at level 10 can do with some standard Vermundian upgrades you don't have to wait to unlock Dwarven forging dammit

There's another inn that has a more reasonable price, closer to the vocation guild.

I got attacked for looting a chest in the goal basement. The guards walking around didn't seem to pay attention to me until then. I ran away and waited a minute or so and they promptly forgot all about it and ignored me while I finished the quest to talk to the guy there.

Hmm, well on the one hand if I missed that questline because of MSQ progression then I'll need to restart my game, but on the other hand I already have a lot of interesting ideas I could do to get amazing items early on if I do restart so maybe it's not so bad.

Does that ranking make a distinction between pawn and arisen bc it's very different for either. I don't wanna stand around in a robe and charge a spell, but I'm happy to have a Pawn do that sort of busywork for me.

On the other hand Mystic Spearman makes the whole squad invincible and destroys all enemies handily, but only if you're doing it. A Pawn Spear can't think to start casting the next shield right when the previous will fall off by the time you finish casting the next, and they won't spam dragoon jumps to chop heads as quickly either.

Well pawns can't be mystic spearhead in the first place unless I'm missing something

The one thing I asked for that I didn't see mentioned here is I'd like a better ability to freely rebind my abilities and maybe even more ability slots. Four feels a little limited. I didn't mention it but I also think perhaps augments should have more impact, but that's something that's probably easily moddable. I like more incentive to level alternate vocations and mix/match the passives, it was something that kept me grinding in the original Dragon's Dogma, sure, the combat itself is generally engaging, but I find that I lose interest in even the most well-designed content if I don't have a goal to work towards.

Some of the rewards require you to find a specific NPC and have them engage you in dialogue again. Though I never got the logistician tome from the guy outside the church-ish building either, it seems like maybe sometimes the triggers don't fire right.

I actually find the pawn chatter/behavior generally endearing and I'm like 40 hours in. I've never had them stop mid-battle to high-five though, it's pretty consistently when a fight is over. Sometimes it's repetitive but not that often.

There's a pawn specialization that makes them not talk somewhere in the game, though I don't think I've seen a Rift pawn with it yet.

I think some pawn personalities just sit down sometimes and that's not necessarily indicative of the plague. My calm inclination pawn often scolds pawns that are sitting down.

It's the same place, the cave near the start of the game has a chest with Nation's Death Knell and Howling Blizzard, and opening the chest triggers a fight with a wight. I believe it's also the same place where you can encounter a chimera very early on, if you miss the cave you might not see one for a long time.

The big guys are nothing, and I have a feeling what I meet in the desert will be the same. I don't really have a problem with the difficulty, but I outlevel everything so quickly just checking every nook and cranny.

This could be a big help, in my repeat run I'm like halfway through the initial Brandt quests but I decided to wander off to do the Sphinx riddles, unlock Trickster and Magic Archer, and put portcrystals down in the Volcanic Isles/Bakbattahl and generally fart around. Sometimes just reloading the game has fixed strange/seemingly bugged quest behavior for me, other times leaving the area and coming back. In particular there were two instances where I needed a reload: during the Trial of Archery, the lady elf disappeared on me but reloading the game popped her back in. Also, during Tolled to Death, I had already taken the grimoire and couldn't interact with Oskar to give it back to him until after I reloaded the game.

But we all know that no game developer would ever, ever do that with a male NPC without giving the player the choice to back out.

So why not include that option with Ulrika?

I think the same thing happens with Aelinore in the first game.

I agree, but somehow I don't think Capcom is quite caught up on that aspect of RPGs yet. I did find it pretty amusing how thirsty Ulrika was for my Arisen, a muscular lady about two and a half heads taller than the dainty little archer. Someone wants to put that Avidity augment to good use.

Some sources say that player-made ones are fine too, but I took a Capcom one by going offline first. Now, the trouble was I hadn't found this riftstone earlier, which I could see being an issue for others too - if you've seen it, you'll probably know immediately what the deal is.

I'll corroborate that player-made pawns work as long as they have that name. The Sphinx even says "it's in the name".
