I love how eager the right is to make self proclaimed military heroes to be infallible. Except when they speak against the GOP. btw Chris Kyle was a piece of poo poo in a ton of aspects, embellished the poo poo out of his service record, called Iraqis/Arabs sub-human scum and enjoyed killing them, took every chance possible to make himself rich off of his time as a SEAL, and knew literally nothing about PTSD and tried to masquerade as a expert in it. That this movie gets so much press is loving atrocious when Ender's Game was sandbagged by OSC being a homophobic monster. Not to defend Card, but Chris Kyle is a complete piece of poo poo. Oh, and every right wing poo poo uses the tagline "Kyle, the most lethal sniper in military history," which is complete bullshit. pentyne fucked around with this message at 17:00 on Jan 19, 2015 |

Friendly reminder, Chris Kyle was beaten at his own game by a girl. Also, by some Finnish guy in just 100 days compared to Kyle's ten years, but even I think it's a bit unfair to compare anyone to what might be the literal Grim Reaper given physical form, so I tend to stick with the former.

Tab8715 posted:Could you extended a little further on this? I'm Chris Kyle illiterate but why is he such a hero? Why is he so or good or so bad? He was a soldier who killed a lot of people in Iraq. A large portion of the American populace accepts this fact completely uncritically and hails Kyle as a Good Guy who slaughtered a poo poo ton of Bad Guys. Kyle was the kind of hyper macho dude who goes into bars and tells everyone in earshot what a billy badass he is. His estate keeps losing defamation lawsuits to Jesse Ventura because in his memoirs, Kyle claimed he punched out Ventura who was hating on the military and government in some dive bar. Making up stories about beating up peple who disagree with you is a hallmark of a emotionally stable and mature individual. Kyle was involved in outreach for PTSD soldiers by taking them shooting. Since he was not a therapist, psychologist, or had any mental health training beyond the sheer oorah in his soul, this plan obviously backfired - because the most logical therapy for a mentally traumatized soldier is to take them to a place with a lot of gunfire and give them a weapon. When he died he was hailed as a right wing hero because, superficially, he didn't appear to be a giant piece of poo poo to chickenhawk flagwavers. Kurtofan posted:Is the movie right wing wank too? Clint Eastwood makes pretty good movies but the source material is weak. The movie portrays Kyle far more sympathetically than he portrayed himself - in the film he's a conflicted hero, in his own words he gleefully engaged in what he felt was justified murder. He's one of those dudes who joins the army straight up because he wants to kill people. boner confessor fucked around with this message at 17:34 on Jan 19, 2015 |
