If you want an example of terrible 2D kickstarter game that obviously should just make the jump to 3D, just look at Stasis. Look at that horrible work, christ I just want to vomit. And don't get me started how on terrible his mock-up of a 2D Bioshock looks: http://i.imgur.com/GZioXy3.jpg

Yeah, I take back the last page, I'll take a thousand pre-rendered 3D games if I never have to see anything like that again. That isn't even retro it's five minutes in MSPaint.

You say that but is literally the next thing on the list. It's already becoming a thing.

You know what I'd like though? a game themed around early 90s CG reels. those things could get so wild and trippy, i'd like to see what people could do with that theme NOW and in REAL TIME.

Seems totally consistent with the style of the guy who made it (who's also a goon) so I don't think anyone backing it should be surprised.

I don't think the point of view will move? Like have you ever played a infinity engine game or what?

I don't know what to feel about the new torment game since Wasteland 2 kind of felt like a misfire. I backed it ages ago though.

Put me in the game looks ugly as hell category. I backed at the "Get WL2 and Torment" level and while I had fun with the first hour or two of WL2 I found that combat just got boring after a while and the game was on the uglier side of modern day games.

Pillars of Eternity was great though so the bar is pretty high.

I mean I get that they are supposed to be nostalgia trips or whatever, but Pillars is pretty as hell.

In other news, Lucky Pause's kickstarted Homesick (using the Unreal Engine) is pretty much ready for release.

Backers should be getting steam keys to try out the beta before the final release, which is currently planned for May 28th. I've got my key today in the mail, but haven't managed to play much of the game. Just moved around the starting room. My first impression is a positive one.

The recent update post for DreamFall Chapters (RTG are working on the third episode), points towards a new kickstarter for a horror themed game called "Through the Woods" which is developed by Antagonist (another Norwegian indie company).

It reminds me a little of the Among the Sleep game (they mention it as a source of inspiration), and the prototype demo they offer does have Silent Hill-ish feel to it.

They ask for quite a small amount.

Not sure if there is sufficient interest for that sort of game nowadays (it's not Slenderman category, but it's not far either). I can't say I'm hooked.

It was only partially kickstarter's fault. Had a lot of sudden unexpected expenditures, plus a few expenditures I could've lived without but went for anyway. Plus a big party for a friend of mine's 30th birthday. It all added up.

It's like you took the words right out of my mouth. I was coming to post this and found I'd just missed the mark. Put down 50 after the Obsidian one as I just got sent basically that amount by my brother to pay an earlier debt. All out of money for backing after that.

Edit: The average backing amount right now is almost 90 bucks per person.

evilmiera posted:

Well, I'd love to pledge more, especially to pitches that really appeal to me. But what with having pledged so much already these last few months, most of my reserves are gone, and I have to worry about making money again for the next month at the very least.

I'd say I could start pledging properly again sometime after Christmas, where most of my funds will hopefully be spent getting presents/donating to worthy causes.

Now to somehow find 5000 bucks to pledge to Spud's quest to get them over the line, and then see about adding more money to the Shadowgate kickstarter out of my magical infinite moneypit that Quarex so neatly provided.

evilmiera posted:

As someone who backs stuff, be it nostalgic or not as long as they have a cool pitch or as a result of random inebriation I fully support this new godgame.

Now to find some way to sell a kidney to be able to afford support for this and Shut up and jam Gaiden 2 both. Oh, and let's not forget Shadowgate, Maia, Spud's Quest, and post-kickstarter backingupgrades for Star Citizen.

evilmiera posted:

You're presuming then that I just back stuff randomly and have already pledged to this then? Not that you're wrong, or anything.
