At the end of the first week they run out clean dishes and just stand there staring at the sink in bafflement. I was thinking of dish brushes though.

That's how they get ya That poo poo happened to me a couple times before I just started moving everyone else's week-old dirty dishes to the kitchen table so I could do my own. It was great because they'd walk into the kitchen, see a pristine countertop and sink and think "sweet, Fai did all the dishes" and then turn the corner into the dining room and see neat piles of moldy loving dishes and flatware all over the table. Buy your own home so you don't have to do your roommates' dishes #dishhack

She had about thirty dinner plates in all, none of which were ever cleaned by her and ended up piled in the sink until someone would snap and wash them for her. Eventually, another housemate got so fed up she threw a load of the plates out the window, smashing them. Filthy housemate didn't notice for weeks.

At work, the policy is that any dishes left in the sink unattended for any reason get thrown away when the cleaning staff comes through to clean the break room. It works pretty well. 90% of people wash their plates when they are done with them and put them away or bring in a stack of paper/foam plates like normal people. The abnormal people pack their plates back into their lunch bag to take home and wash in their dishwashers instead of washing their single plate in the sink because "washing dishes in a sink is gross". Then there's the one guy who brings in new dishes each day then hides them after he uses them because he will never wash them but still feels compelled to save them. Every couple of months his stash of moldy dishes will start to smell enough for its location to be discovered and the whole mountain of mountain of 80+ plates and mugs goes in the dumpster. I usually dumpster dive myself a once-used coffee mug if I see an interesting one.

I honestly can't remember the last time I used a dishwasher. It's probably been at least five years. Kinda pointless as a single guy without roommates.

We had community silverware at my old job and I regret being really lazy about washing them. Washing a single fork is time wasting so I'd justify to myself that I'd do it at the end of the week. After I couldn't find a fork to use I realized I had accumulated over 15 on my desk and felt really awful about it when my boss called me out. And then did the same thing again the next month but hid that poo poo in my drawer. Disposable silverware for the new job I swear, no more piles of gross poo poo on my desk! #lifehack

In the 80's when I was growing up, the dishwasher was great for sanitizing but useless for removing food particles so the dishes had to be washed before they went in anyway. My current dishwasher is a 20-year-old roll-away, so the dishes still need to be washed beforehand Lifehack: use a $1 pair of dishwashing gloves when washing dishes in the sink walla

Even when I cook for 3-4 people it takes ~10 minutes to wash everything and put it on the drying rack then two minutes in the morning to put it all away while I'm waiting for my coffee pot to boil.

a quick rinse over with cold water takes care of that also lol at people getting grossed out with handling wash water. maybe it's from going camping all the time when i was a kid, but i see nothing disgusting about plunging my hands into murky gunk water as long as you wash up afterwards.
