The reasoning is that it just needs to be even and hold up to all the pressure of the machine pushing water through it. Most of espresso pulling is people making stuff up.

Not sure if OCD or just side effects of my photog days from years ago.

Exactly, what happens if they actually finish SQ42 Episode 1? They are going to just jump right into Episode 2. Beyond the fact that Crobert's interest is in the cinematic SQ42, they're hosed technologically on Star Citizen anyway. I know Star Citizen is never coming out in any form similar to what has been promised, and I have huge doubts about them being able to even get out SQ42, but I very badly want to see SQ42 released. I want to see it just be a wet plop, get critically destroyed, make no money because nobody wants it, and anyone that does want it is already entitled to it, and for that to be the killing blow, short of the FTC swooping in or straight bankruptcy. Chris Roberts managing to release SQ42, and it being a huge nothing burger and getting eviscerated over it, would be pretty entertaining.
