I mean the dnd election thread is still just endless posts calling everybody a racist so really many people have learned nothing and it's gonna be equally satisfying watching them meltdown in 2020

I don't pretend to know what these posts are talking about but I haven't paid attention to politics in roughly 16 years, and I've been unaffected in any material way.

Maybe now it'll be different?

Nope. We're keeping it right here. This is the Democrats' thread, and it's open-season on the party leadership. Things are moving toward the Sanders' wing of the party right now. We're here to stay.

Yes, I breathlessly await the last desperate attempt of all true partisans to suck the last drop of cum out of Sanders' shriveled, impotent, circumcised dick believing it to be the golden nectar that will save a dying, it's not, and ailing, it's not, Democratic Party. You, uh, are aware the Democratic Party doesn't have control of any branch of federal government, right? And also that the Dems are basically non-existent in the majority of state governments? And also that 'the most qualified candidate of all time' just lost to a carnival barker?

What would it take to come to terms with the fact that the Dems need a change up?

E: And the majority of the last 8 years of Democratic policy can be undone with a pen stroke, since much of it relies on executive order because Obama didn't really accomplish much legislatively (and the complete Republican control of all branches will eviscerate the legislative accomplishments)

It always amazes me how upset people get over this presidential election crap.

It doesn't matter who's president, the rich run everything, like they always have. Study some history, drat.

Yes, and obviously that change is an old, white, self-proclaimed socialist, Jew, from Vermont that isn't even a Democrat. And, there are so many solid socialist legislators that have been elected to State and Federal positions over the last 100 years. How could I have not seen it, the future was staring us in the face the whole time and we all missed it. It's so clear now.

i'm open to supporting sanders in 2020, if he runs again. why not? he may very well be a solid matchup against trump. but outside of that, is it a viable path for the democratic party? i think it remains to be seen - the fact that the bernie endorsing people running on his platform have not had much success at the primary level doesn't give me a lot of optimism that they can capture hearts and minds with a less ideologically friendly general electorate. but 2018 might be a pretty good proving grounds to show otherwise, so we'll see.

Candidate Response 1, A woman: Naturally suggesting that being a woman should be an obstacle to running for presidency is despicable, and she shouldn't be blamed for the effects of sexism of the American people.

huey was a racist rear end in a top hat. his policies both helped and hurt black people in a variety of ways. yet he was probably better than any other governor for black people in the entire deep south from the 1870s till the 60s, and he was under constant attack because some of his policies didnt in discriminate and benefited black people.

Its pretty ironic that the DNCs bigotry helped lead to the most bigoted candidate in decades winning.

Do you think the Democrats will learn anything about some mud being too vile to sling at the people nominally on your side?

Oh, Keith Ellison cant connect with voters because reasons? You dont say.

It is interesting how the predominant bigotries in society are slowly accelerating to encompass the greatest mass. From "coloreds", to Muslims, and now to the opposite sex in general. There's a dialectical process even to the forces of reaction. At some point in the near future, assuming we don't completely gently caress everything up, there may be no more great Others to fear and conspire against.

Long was a weird political figure, but I think he is best defined as an unrepentant opportunist. he had no issue throwing black people to the wolves to win votes, but would then turn right around and institute social programs that benefited them as much as white people (as much as Jim Crow would allow, and Long had no interest in fighting that). from what I've read, most of the opposition to him on that front was organized by the elites that he was fighting against, personified in the Klan. the fact that his popular support wasn't broken by that gives me at least some marginal hope for our own future
