He probably chose that passage specifically because it's part of a section warning against doing convoluted lawyering with the laws of the Torah. He'd consider the justifications for slavery given by Christians (e.g. the whole Canaanites thing) to have been lawyering of that sort.

In general though nothing in the Bible is absolutely against slavery, it just has rules to follow if you're gonna do it.

Daniel Henninger in the WSJ calls the Obama/Lynch decision to allow the NSA to spread raw intel to the other 16 agencies the Rosetta Stone for the Russia story:

As with Hillary’s server, there is a Rosetta Stone for the Russia story. It is the Barack Obama/Loretta Lynch decision in January to sign rules permitting the National Security Agency to disseminate “raw signals intelligence” to 16 other intelligence agencies without privacy protections for individuals.

Two months later, it was reported by the New York Times that Obama administration officials had done this to dispense information across the intelligence bureaucracies “about possible contacts between associates of President-elect Donald J. Trump and Russians.”

Of course, those “contacts” leaked into the water-collection barrels of the entire Washington press—either from officials inside 17 U.S. intelligence agencies or from Obama officials themselves, such as it-wasn’t-me Susan Rice.

The predictable tumult from the Obama-originated mass leaks then intimidated Congress into sending the House and Senate intelligence committees chasing after these “suggestions” of collusion.

Beyond Mike Flynn and Carter Page, why haven’t we seen more leaks pushing past the original stories? Why have the leakers gone silent, unless they leaked everything they had? Indeed why hasn’t there been a mega-dump into the press by now of all the original NSA “raw signals intelligence” à la the Pentagon Papers?

Instead, calls are now bubbling up from this swamp—what else can you call it?—to appoint a special prosecutor, presumably to get to the bottom of the Russian collusion swamp, though without subpoena powers in Moscow.

Again a very likpatous story

Ha ha, most people wouldn't notice this, but check out out how Adam4D had to specifically say chattel slavery. Even then, saying the Bible condemns chattel slavery is a half-truth. It condemns it...but only if the slave was Hebrew. The Law was totally cool with chattel slavery...as long as they were foreign.

Leviticus 25:44-46: "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."

Hebrew slaves, on the other hand, could only be enslaved for six years, and were to be released on the seventh. The one exception to this is if the slave master gave the slave a wife, in which case the slave master keeps the woman and kids as his own wife and kids.

Exodus 21:1-4: "When you buy a male Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, but in the seventh he shall go out a free person, without debt. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s and he shall go out alone."

And while it was totally fine to buy and sell slaves, or will slaves to your children, it was forbidden to kidnap people to turn them into slaves.

Deuteronomy 24:7: " If someone is caught kidnapping another Israelite, enslaving or selling the Israelite, then that kidnapper shall die. So you shall purge the evil from your midst."

Also if one went to war and took a woman captive to be their slave and then didn't want her anymore, they were forbidden from selling her to another slave owner.

Deuteronomy 21:10-14: "When you go out to war against your enemies, and the Lord your God hands them over to you and you take them captive, suppose you see among the captives a beautiful woman whom you desire and want to marry, and so you bring her home to your house: she shall shave her head, pare her nails, discard her captive’s garb, and shall remain in your house a full month, mourning for her father and mother; after that you may go in to her and be her husband, and she shall be your wife. But if you are not satisfied with her, you shall let her go free and not sell her for money. You must not treat her as a slave, since you have dishonored her."

So yeah, the Bible doesn't condone chattel slavery...if the slave was Hebrew! But it absolutely condones it if the slave is foreign.
