One more for jam man in safe Tory seat. Polling station was very busy compared to previous visits. Why there must have been three other people voting! I had to queue!

qhat posted:British Rail was terrible do not forget this Privatisation is never a fix for inefficiency. The aim of a private business is to make money. If there is a way to make money while not having to fulfil the contract to the customer then a business is obligated to do this. This is the fundamental problem with privatised services. Services are for the public good but businesses have no such aims or desires.

Serene Dragon posted:I'm sunk in a deep depression today, and it's been building all week. I think it's because I genuinely have no hope of a good outcome. For Brexit and Trump and 2015 I had hope. False hope, but hope nonetheless. Now I have nothing. The tories are getting their landslide and Britain is gonna get completely hosed because the tories have proof that no matter what they put in their manifesto, no matter how blatantly evil they are, they will win. Extra-parliamentary activism isn't impossible and it doesn't (necessarily) involve violent or criminal acts, don't be afraid of it. Resistance has been poor up until now but Corbyn and Labour aren't the final culmination of that, they're just the furthest we've managed to push the movement and giving up now is insane when they have honestly come this close to power. If you're an activist, be encouraged. If you're a voter/supporter, become an activist.

Apparently Leeds North West, my constituency, has seen the largest amount of new registrations in the country. Hopefully that bodes well, as it's a lib dem/labour marginal, held by the lib dems at 3000. That'll at least get me through till 10pm when the drowning of sorrows can begin. Also similar to someone else earlier, as someone who's been lurking these threads from the LF days, they've been an amazing resource in developing political awareness; I'm far more involved in local politics and activism due to UKMT than anything else.

TBF Oxford City is a labour stronghold (and having gone to a couple of Vice Chancellor's questions, the Oxford University Vice-Chancellor and administration are definitely not keen on the tories.) I voted Lib Dem in West Oxford and Abingdon, as Labour aren't really a contender in this seat. Quiet this morning when I voted, but when I went back with my wife after work it was...brisk.
