They may not be able to get their hands on ANFO by the ton any more but I'm willing to bet there's still a few hundred kilos of Semtex buried in various fields around Armagh that the owners will be willing to share. ANFO is literally fertilizer with oil poured into it whacked into a giant blender. Its not that hard

Murderion posted:By giving one side power in government, giving them an unequal say over Northern Irish issues. One of the weirdnesses of Stormont is that it's designed to insure power sharing between the Unionists and Republicans. Yeah, god, this is actually now getting worse by the hour. I knew that this would throw a spotlight back on the NI aspect of Brexit, but as an American I didn't appreciate how bad it'd be for the GFA that one of the sides is now in a position of major power in Westminster. It would be hilarious if Sinn Fein's answer was to have their MPs resign from Sinn Fein and attend Westminster as independents, just to make it so that the Tories can't get a majority even in coalition. That way Sinn Fein doesn't technically have to sully themselves with an oath to the Queen and they still get to rub it in May's face. Either way though, this situation is going to get very serious very quickly. While I'm not surprised May has bollocks'd the peace of Northern Ireland, I really hope the worst can be avoided somehow.

Hoops posted:For this week, yes. You will basically never hear about the DUP in the news again after the next few weeks, so they might end up being a great choice for the Tories as it gets them a government that is pretty much 100% Conservative Party in the eyes of the public without having to actually win the seats. I doubt it. They're a hell of a stick to beat a sitting government with in a bunch of different directions; some DUP MP will be saying stupid poo poo about women, LBGT rights, the climate etc on a weekly basis. They're really really to the right of even May's political consensus: the nasty party will be back in a big way.
