Technically if there was another election she could run as leader of the party while not having been an mp before the dissolution of parliament, and in theory if it worked like with MEP's she wouldn't have to resign her MSP seat until she took office. But there's a whole pile of other constitutional problems with that.

It didn't start with Twitter.

First there was the ticker "Is Obama a Communist Islamo-Fascist?"

Then came the cut to a field reporter for no good reason who tells us, "We know nothing about what's actually being discussed behind these closed doors. But we could be moments away from learning that Anna Nicole Smith was murdered by the Zodiac killer."

See Adequate's post on the last page for why this won't happen. It's within the Sinn Fein constitution to not take their seats and an MP would be expelled from the party if they did it. Short of the government trying to pass internment camps for catholics, SF ain't taking their seats.

It almost seems like the best option for May would be to accept the hung parliament and try again with another vote? Granted her last campaign was a loving disaster, but forming a coalition with the DUP sounds like a complete dead end. Or is there actually a legitimate threat that Labour could scrape together a minority coalition?

Why then would the DUP even agree to be part of a coalition with the Tories? Just let Corbyn handle Brexit and get a better deal by default.

The DUP and SF are locked in a deadlock since the start of this year after the power sharing government collapsed and SF are demanding concessions to continue to participate which the DUP do not want to give.

There was a regional election in march to try to break the deadlock which, through swelling SF votes and increased middle ground "no stance" votes, meant NI was left with a region government for the first time since its creation without a unionist majority.

The DUP consider themselves locked in a fight for the survival of the union and view corbyns labour as too accommodating to SF and nationalism and fear they will hand SF their desired concessions over the DUPs head

They do not want Corbyn anywhere near the negotiations and would probably rather back down on Brexit to keep the Tories in

Derry~Londonderry or the Maiden City or alternating between the two (which was the BBC style for a long time) are compromises

Well, the PM doesn't have to come to the Commons, it's just a very strong norm that they do. This would be a scenario where Davidson would sit as PM for like a week or two before a new election is called, though, so it wouldn't really stretch convention.

The troubles are considered to have started before a British soldier arrived in NI as part of operation banner - the 69 riots where between the NI state police (and infamous auxiliary police the B Specials) and self defence militias. Gun battles between factions happened and the army got in the middle of it, and the Provo's broke off from the IRA and decided to specifically launch a campaign against the military

It's fascinating what happens with politically driven name changes of cities: lots of people in Mumbai still call it Bombay, Ho Chi Min City is still Saigon to half the population, and there are probably as many people in St Petersburg who still call it Leningrad as there were in Leningrad who still called it St Petersburg.
