Talking about Northern Ireland, I just found out about the Clontibret Invasion & wow. If you can't be arsed reading the Wikipedia article on it, in 1986 a couple hundred Unionists (including ex-DUP leader Peter Robinson) crossed the border into Ireland in the huff over the Anglo-Irish Agreement, smashed cars, splashed anti-Agreement graffiti everywhere (including on the wall of a church. A protestant church!), and attacked 2 Garda. Kind of small compared to some of the horrible poo poo that happened but the fact Robinson was involved & got arrested makes it stand out.

if the DUP demand too much, and if I were a Tory in a suddenly-narrow marginal - and god knows there are plenty of such now - I would be seriously considering whether: - a May government is likely to last long enough to render the opprobrium worth it, and - whether a May government can actually afford to punish naughty Tories in any way

Interestingly (excluding Ober's predictions) the mean for the entries was: CON: 320.75 LAB: 250.25 LD: 5.5 Other: 68.58333333 making us collectively considerably closer to the final result than most of the pollsters.

Why exactly are the nationalists parties much more strongly associated with left wing politics & the unionists all right wing? Surely there's loads of working class unionists who would vote for a party that looked after their rights while also being for remaining in the UK? And with Fianna Fail & Fine Gael you've obviously got nearby examples of right wing Irish nationalist parties. So how has it ended up as it has?

Is Chris Leslie a blairite oval office? The guardian seems intent on giving him an article where he's making GBS threads on corbyn saying that " oh yah well he didn't actually win the election, anyone could've beat May, you have to be credible bork bork bork." In fact there's a kind of motif and under current to the guardian with the "still didn't win Nyah Nyah" angle.
