More likely he didn't expect his answers to end up in the national media. The unfortunate truth is that he's already had to filter himself somewhat during interviews, I hope this isn't the start of him having to do the same in private conversations with friends.

I think that seems to carry with it the assumption that Corbyn has learned absolutely nothing from the campaign and how to respond to media hostility.

Which, I think, his appearance at glastonbury and his handling of the grenfell tower business suggests is not true.

The press didn't take his approval rating down to those depths overnight, they did it through the constant grind of every single line written about him being unrelentingly negative, combined with the refusal to show him in person or report his opinions accurately.

We're going back to that now. We get a brief period where his sheer popularity is a story in itself, like with Glastonbury, and then it's day after day smears and lies and misrepresentation. Complacency now is a massive threat, which is what makes it all the more galling when an ally proudly brings up Trident of all loving things.
No one is going to give a poo poo about his position on Trident at this point because its been around long enough that people have already built their perspectives on Corbyn and his opinions on it. And I'm not worried about complacency when Labour have been open about their desire to stay in full campaign mode after the election because thats the only possible way they're going to carry on hitting the Tories.

His response is only relevant if it gets coverage.

Have you noticed the amount of criticism the BBC has come in for over it's sudden 'left wing bias'? Including from MPs and other powerful figures? They've taken down tweets and even changed their article about Glastonbury to say some of the audience were booing Corbyn purely because of the high profile people who've been complaining.

Do you think the BBC reporter actually noticed some of the Glastonbury crowd booing Corbyn, but initially forgot to mention it?

And Morrissey might be a twat but even he knew what the right side was on this important issue:

"The Guardian posted:

Morrissey goes on to claim that he cancelled an appearance on The Andrew Marr Show after hearing that Cameron would also be present, and although it is generally "a fantastic thrill" to learn that "anyone at all" likes the Smiths' music, "David Cameron is not just anyone".

It's in the video, he gets what sounds like boos when he mentions the trump thing, I mean I would assume glastonbury is not full of trumpenproles so it's probably more of an "ooooooooh" but it sounds like booing.

Also the BBC getting shat on for reporting anything not right wing is not new either, what's slightly surprising is that they bothered to stick their head above the parapet even slightly but you can't not do that when Corbyn addressing big crowds at glastonbury to generally good reception is a newsworthy thing now that Labour are a credible threat to the tories.

As long as May continues to have a poo poo or nonexistent government and as long as Labour continue to pose a threat to the tories, what Corbyn does is news, and what he's doing is essentially remaining on campaign, which has always been his strongest area of competence, he's an excellent campaigner.

They're booing trump, though, as you can tell by how they immediately go for a massive cheer when Corbyn gives a relatively mild chastisement of him after.

That also makes sense, as I said it doesn't make sense for them to be booing him for it really.

In a crowd of tens of thousands who have turned out specifically to see Corbyn, it seems unlikely to me that a BBC reporter would notice 'pockets' of people who actually don't like what he's saying and are booing him.

Which is my point really. The BBC always gets criticised for bias, the difference when the criticism comes from powerful people on the right is they're willing to edit news articles to include something (probably) untrue in order to be seen as better 'balanced'.

He had an approval rating of -42 a few months ago.

I'm all for optimism but the constant attacks on him made him one of the most unpopular politicians in the country. Sure he managed to turn it around during the campaign but we aren't in a campaign any more.

That's not as damning a rating as one might think, considering he basically ignored the press entirely between the second leadership contest and right before the elections.

Now that they've got momentum going I doubt he's going to disappear and let that happen again. He's basically PM-in-waiting at this point.

I only saw the article quote someone posted here, but it was actually weasel worded as "boos could be heard at one point" in the 'however' part of the article. So not even untrue, just phrased to imply the complete opposite of what happened. Might as well have put 'there were angry reactions to some things he said'
