Yes it would be pointless. Brexit is idiotic and pointless - but It would be making the best of a bad situation. It would also be the position that would allow labour to claim they were following the democratic decision of the U.K. while providing a situation closest to what the majority of what its voters want and save the UK from the economic consequences of leaving the single market. There's nothing good about a hard Brexit. Pissflaps fucked around with this message at 20:40 on Jun 29, 2017 |

Yeah exactly, either go through with brexit or don't. That's why I think a referendum on the deal is the right thing to do. Evaluate exactly what is on the table and we decide whether we still want to leave.

The best part of Brexit is that Britain is going to have to make some fair trade deals for the first time in about 200 years.

TBH if Tom Watson manages to push for proper press regulation etc. in the intervening time then you might well see your wish granted of a second referendum going better. Leave blatantly won because of media fingers on the scale, actual press regulation could probably prevent that.

Ideally people will be clamouring for one as the details of what it actually means become clear over the negotiating period People voted to leave without having the first idea of what it entails, in two years it'll be a very different picture (although there's always the NO DEAL = WINNERS wildcard if that's not challenged too). You can definitely make an argument that offering a second referendum on the actual terms is more moral and democratic than not

If we have a 'are you sure you want to' vote with the implications of brexit being spelt out, there will be only the cold, hard sobering facts and there's no way the brexit deal will be better than staying in the EU
