House of Cards being up in the air really hosed over some people I know this year, and right before the holidays to boot. So gently caress Kevin Spacey for that, too.

Also in Atlanta being a PA is absolutely all about who you know. There's no union for them like there is in LA, and the sweetheart georgia movie deal says nothing about taking care of the grunts. Piss off one person and you're done.

BIG HEADLINE posted:So evidently January is going to be Infrastructure Month. I find it impossible to imagine that Trump this GOP congress is going to work on some bi-partisan infrastructure bill with the Democratic wing after all the blithering and not even letting them have any say in governing and legislation for an entire year. I simply don't believe, it's not gonna happen and Trump is just going to get bogged down in some personal beef with the media again. On the maybe 5% chance it actually happens it'd certainly be a first though.

There's no union for them like there is in LA, and the sweetheart georgia movie deal says nothing about taking care of the grunts. There's no PA union in the United States, in LA or elsewhere. In Canada PAs are considered a part of the Director's Guild of Canada and as such can collectively bargain. In the US, you have to work 600 days as a PA on union projects with the paperwork to prove it before you get to join the DGA as an Assistant Director. And even then you can only work outside of LA or New York for an additional 600 days, at which point you can become "First Area" (Los Angeles) or "Second Area" (New York). In the meantime, PAs in the US make absolute minimum wage 99% of the time and only get employer benefits when they staff the entire season of a (scripted, union, major network or cable) TV show. Most shows have 2-3 staff set PAs. I leave the math on the number of insurance-covered set PAs to you. A vast majority of PAs typically day-play, depending on the additional needs of any given production. Movies tend to have better rates, but you only work a few months and then you're back on unemployment. TV is more consistent, but generally pays the minimum. I've worked on shows with better rates, but that's extremely rare and only happens on hyper successful shows with less-than-total-rear end in a top hat producers. Of which there are very, very few. It still stuns me that anyone stands by Trump when stories like this come out. I mean, they're evil but they aren't stupid, they must know that Trump will turn on them the instant he doesn't personally profit from their presence. So what's their end-game? Pre-emptively backstab the backstabber? Grab your slightly smaller piece of the pie and disappear? Why not both?
