sleepy.eyes posted:I pretty much fall into that, get up to speed quickly and generally don't do more than about 5 over, or the flow of traffic assuming it isn't pointless racing to the next red because idiots think it saves time. This is what I do, too. I think part of the reason is that people who accelerate slowly and speed aren't really paying attention to what they're doing, they're just doing whatever they feel comfortable doing. This is also why they will completely ignore changes in speed limits, meaning they can go from 20 under to 10 over or something. People who accelerate fast would go faster, if not for safety in the face of the unknown, and the law. I cannot rely on driving a speed that would feel comfortable on a given road, because it would be quite illegal, and it would be dangerous should something unexpected occur, so I need to monitor my speed and the speed limit to ensure I'm safe and reasonably legal.

Mein Kampf Enthusiast posted:Around here it's not even remotely uncommon to see people doing 25+ through mall parking lots. I'm honestly amazed I don't see way more accidents in the lots around here. Not even just mall lots, happens almost anywhere here. I almost got the front of my car smashed by a dumbass in my work parking lot, it's all 10mph and he is was easily doing 25-30. Then there's the tailgaters at my apartment complex who ride my rear end, then act shocked when I stop to reverse into a spot or slow down to pull in forward.

Had a guy honk at me (or it was the guy stopped behind him, who couldn't see my car around the corner) as I did a three point turn in my parkade, so as to make a corner without shearing the front of his car off or hitting the wall. It's not my fault you're in the middle of the goddamn lane and you were going too fast to use the convex mirror and stop in time so that we could both easily pass each other.

Man, nothing identifies people who skimp on tires like a little bit of freezing rain. My commute is ~10.5 miles and I saw at least a dozen cars in various modes of destruction because they ping-ponged across the road a few times. A few were straight up abandoned because there were no more tow trucks available to haul them off. I'm a fairly late commuter and I'm sympathetic that things were worse a couple hours ago but for a region that likes to act smug about their ability to deal with bad roads this was a bit silly.
