Eat the rich and harvest their livers. They'll be happy to know their final donation is tax deductible.

we can't reform the health care system in the us because it would put insurance companies out of business! exactly why that's a bad thing has never been clear.

History lesson: Marcus Licinius Crassus made a fortune by operating firefighters. quote:One of his most lucrative schemes took advantage of the fact that Rome had no fire department. Crassus filled this void by creating his own brigade—500 men strong—which rushed to burning buildings at the first cry of alarm. Upon arriving at the scene, however, the fire fighters did nothing while their employer bargained over the price of their services with the distressed property owner. If Crassus could not negotiate a satisfactory price, his men simply let the structure burn to the ground, after which he offered to purchase it for a fraction of its value.

Because that "put them into the mines" is some proper dark ages poo poo usually advocated by the GOP/right wing conservatives, which ironically is the kiddy fiddler guild. Of course knowing the US prison industry that fire chief only did his time and never got help, so he will gently caress the next 4 year old in a fire instead of rescuing her/him.

DancingShade posted:And after you get the bill you'll probably wish you did die from the burning arm if the 62% of personal US bankruptcies being medical related is still a thing. Fun fact: a majority of the people bankrupted by medical bills had health insurance. Dr.Smasher posted:Isn't Aetna the company that told a 16 year old girl who needed a liver transplant to gently caress off, which got her bumped from like spot #1 on the donor list to the bottom, then got sued and protested outside their global HQ, then as she lay dying in a hospital bed said 'yeah I guess we'll cover it' and then she died before they could wheel her into surgery? That was Cigna: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/08/cigna-employee-flips-off_n_314189.html The thing you are thinking about Aetna is that they are now denying hospital visits if the customer was incorrect in their assumption (so if you go to the hospital for extreme stomach pain because you think it's appendicitis, you're on the hook for the $12,000+ bill in its entirety if you're wrong). They're only doing it in five states though (but plan to extend that to the rest of the country in the near future!). Interesting story about Cigna. They denied me a surgery I needed to help me breathe (no I'm not fat) and they denied it because they said "all known cures for this disorder are considered experimental". Being the complete nutcase that I am, I read their citation and actually went out and got the $400 textbook they cited (OK I bought it on ebay and then sold it back right away but still). They completely made up the citation. I got the book and it actually said the literal opposite of what they said it said. I brought this to their attention, but it was after my third appeal fell through, so they (intelligently) didn't respond to my finding. I asked them where I should report their medical citation fraud to. About a year later they completely changed their policy on my breathing disorder and cover it without issue now. Keep in mind that nothing changed; their policy was the same for decades and the same textbook they were still citing was from 2003. So though they hosed me, I like to think I probably helped saved someone else a lot of grief and aggravation (and tens of thousands of dollars).
